I'm looking at getting a Zero Tolerance ZT0550 Hinderer but I'm not sure if I will be able to sharpen it with my KME system, the part I'm concerned with is the spine of the knife at the top theres not a lot of room for the jaws to hold on a flat surface.

I'm also looking at a ONTARIO XM-1 Plain edge,I'd like to get a folder that is made out of a better steel then the cheaper AUS-8 steel's,I'm looking to spend around $220.00 at the most for a good Folding Knife that has a better steel in it like the Ontario or the ZT.

What other Folding Knife's that have good edge retention would you guys recommend,I'm also do not have a lot of stone for free hand sharpening so I'm going to stick with my KME system.

Does'nt anyone have any advice for me.

I'm new to Folder Knives that are made from good steel and that are a higher end design, can you guys give me some advice on a plain edge Folder that is made from a better quality steel.

The 0550 is a great choice.
I think it would be fine with any clamping sharpening system but I don't see the need unless you need to reprofile.
It comes wicked sharp and touches up pretty easy.

Check out the Spyderco Southard, it's in that price range. I just got mine and it has already replaced my ZT for EDC. It has great steel, CTS-204P. The lockbar and scale liner are made of Titanium so it makes for good light EDC. I love it so far.

ZT 0801 or Spyderco Domino.
Both great knives with excellent steels.

The ZT is more of a hard use knife but still makes a good EDC.
Where the Domino is an all around excellent EDC. And I prefer the steel.

The ZT has Elmax which is a great steel, and is wonderful for hard use blades due to its toughness and wear resistance.
The Spyderco has CTS-XHP which is a great steel no matter what way you look at it, pretty good wear resistance, holds an edge wonderfully, very easy to sharpen, and takes a nice keen edge.

Both are excellent knives and you can't go wrong with either really. I've owned both, loved both, ended up trading both(though I do want another Domino someday) and ended up with my old Sebenza.

I just got a Brand New Zero Tolerance ZT 0560 for $190.00 plus $9.99 shipping off of ebay and the best part is the seller is in Canada and I won't have to pay any import duties.
From what I'm seeing on the Zero Tolerance site they sell them for $325.00 I know they sell a bit higher off of their own sight as I seen them a bit cheaper at other online shops.

What a score for $190.00 and it's band new I guess Christmas came a little earlier this year for me.

Not another "what knife for this price" thread! Can't you guys use the search function? ;)

I would go with the Spyderco Paramilitary 2. About $120, has really good S30V steel, made in the US, G10 scales, great ergos, the list goes on and on.
Also from Spyderco the Domino, Southard, Manix 2, and the Native 5.

Also the Benchmade Barrage, 300 flipper, or Griptilian.

Also consider Al Mar, Hogue, Zero Tolerance, Cold Steel, Kershaw, and SOG.

Zero Tolerance isn't bad for that kind of dough...

Could go the Hogue knife route... EX 03 or EX04?

Seriously though - for that kind of cash - you have your pick of many good options... could half that amount and still come out with a great knife.

ZT 801 for an unassisted bearings flipper or the ZT 566 if you like assisted both great knives with very good steels. These two knives have replaced everything else I had carried in the previous years. Sometimes its a toss up which one goes into my pocket for the day. I have put both of these through a ton of work and neither has let me down. They hold an edge nicely, look and feel great in my hand. The 801 is an exceptional value being fully titanium. You can't go wrong with either

You can buy a brand new Spyderco Gayle Bradley in the $150-range. CPM-M4 blade steel is outstanding...sharp and holds its edge for a very long time.
I've had a bunch of folders in that price range, and this is one of the very best... 3.5" blade-length. Not sure that spending more would give you a better knife.
I also have a NIB 0550, gen 2, S35VN. Be aware that there are two generations in that model. Different blade-steels, slight weight different due to milled holes in liners, lockbar variation in design, although both are good.
