As my second knife I generally carry a Case slipjoint. This knife has the traditional look of grandpa's knife and most people do not fear it as they would fear my BM Rukus 610, or my Strider AR, or my Jeff Hall Bounty Hunter, or my ZT0200, or my Blade-Tech Rijbak if I were to pull it out! As you can see I like a LARGE primary carry knife! I rotate my slippies between a Barlow, a large Gunstock, and a Razor. All have stainless blades that come sharp, but sorta "rough" blade edges, nothing a few passes on my Sharpmaker won't cure. These are pretty tough knives as long as you use them as they are meant to be used.

You may want to check out the Al Mar Eagle series of knives, or the Al Mar Shrike. Both have a 4.0" blade. Lots of choices on the Eagle model.

Btw, the Shrike has a VG-10 blade while the Eagles are in AUS8.

If I were going to carry a "second" knife, it would be my Queen D-2 large Stockman.

Three blades, D-2 steel, ~$50, and perfect for the pocket.
