Ive always been a Kershaw guy but have been wanting to try my first spyderco out for sometime now, but ive having trouble picking. Ive have it down to a few knives so if anyone could give me some feedback or ideas id be thankful. Im not trying to spend alot on first spyderco in case i dont like them so something in 30 to 40 range......these are ones im looking at
Byrd Cara Cara 2
Tenacious
Persistence
Resilience

The Tenacious, Persistence, and Resilience are the exact same knife the only difference is the size so it all depends on your preference. They are all really decent knives for the price and the Byrd knives are also good.

I would try to find a store that sells them and handle a few. The Endura and Delica are favorites and IMO a little higher quality at least in respect to materials. They are a little more but you may find the upgraded steel worth the investment.

It seems most knife enthusiast start small and inexpensive and build up. I feel I outgrew many of my lesser "starter" knives. I now know what I like and what I don't, and have many more expensive knives. Even so, I still carry an Endura or Delica regularly. You may save yourself in the long run by buying a little better knife to begin with. Either way, let us know what you end up with (pics or it didn't happen! J/k) and how you like it.

I think it's worth a little extra for a delica. For a while I was stuck on g-10 but I actually prefer FRN for EDC now. I've been through countless Spydercos but always find myself going back to my salt 1 or delica.

Even though I ve never had one, I believe the Delica is a very good way to start your experience with Spyderco. I really like my Tenacious, but I would carry a Delica more. I carry my Endura as one of a small rotation of edc knives currently.

Tenacious or Persistence are my favorite Edc, also the Ambitious, very nice looking family..

Out of those choices the persistence. Out of the price range Id take a look at the Dragonfly2. If you want, save up some more and get a Delica.

thanks for the feedback all.....im looking foward to getting my first spyderco. Sadly where im from there are no knife stores just a Walmart full of Gerber and gun shopes with nothing or few Bucks. i think ill try the tenacious

Take a look online if you are limited by the local stores. I would suggest a Delica as well. Light, nicely made and you have a choice of steels available at differing prices. Granted, it is a little more than you had mentioned spending, but I think you would be pleased quality, weight and comfort.

My favorite Spydie value knife is the Persistence. I use this knife more than any other primarily because it cheap and I don't care if it gets dinged up. Light, sharp, sturdy, easy to sharpen and just the right size for most cutting tasks. This one has some specks of thinset mortar visible on the G10 from a recent tile job where it saw quite a bit of use. Great little knife.

From reading feedback i get idea i should maybe spend alittle more and really understand what Spyderco has to offer.....dont want to buy to cheap and not like it because im getting what i pay for so to say

By "cheap" I meant relatively low cost/price, I think of it as one of Spyderco's entry level blades. Of course if you want to spend some more dough you can move up the food chain but a Persistence is a low cost introduction to the Spyderco line. The Persistence is a great bang for the buck knife that I like to use for "dirty" jobs, it's a great value for the money.

The tenacious is great, but for a little more, I would recommend the delica or the endura, both have vg-10 steel, which is one of my favorites.

I just bought a Tenacious black plain edged knife from the exchange.......thanks for all the feedback looking foward to getting my hands on my first spyderco!!!
