Can anyone help me contacting a renowned custom knife maker?
Scott Cook is the guy I'm trying to get in touch with but it just seems impossible to hear back from him.
I've sent him e-mails on two separate occasions and both times there was no response.
Believe me, I used the right e-mail address that he provided on his website.

Oddly enough, my friend got a response on his first try within a DAY...and we both use gmail.

Is Scott Cook that busy person to deal with his potential customers?
Or is it just the way it is with custom knife makers?

I've tried several other custom knife makers and they all responded back within a day or two.

Thanks!

Might want to have some patience. I don't put too much time into waiting for some.
If they want to they will.
If not there's more to be discovered.

I have had the same problem with Brad Southard and R.J. Martin. Not to bad mouth them in the least. But dang I want some of their work.

Some are biased towards members of the other knife forum..

Some are just plain too busy..

Be patient

sometimes the email system decide that it is spam and put in their spam folder. it is imperative to check the spam folder once in a while to make sure nothing as important as a customer slip away.

2 emails and you're at wits end? Keep trying. Sometimes email gets lost or the recipient is simply out.

Alternately, what did you ask for? Maybe your request or price range was determined to be unreasonable.

I have been ignored my custom knife makers in the past- I just brushed it off and found someone else. There are so many good makers out there, you can find someone who will make what you are looking for. If this maker doesn't want your money, that is their loss.

One good email and patience will always beat multiple, impatient emails. Forum flaming cant help, either.

Sole people are busy. Some people don't cling to their Internet like some of us do. Shrug. Be patient. And calm.

I'm on Scott Cook's waiting list for a Lochsa. I got one "Dear customer" mail saying he'd closed his list, and I was on it, and he'd be in contact "shortly" regarding specifics. No further word since 2010. My assumption is that he's busy! I'm not agitating, because last I checked it was a five-year wait.

Five year wait for a custom knife? Wow. I guess if you have the means and the patience. Now if you are talking about a custom made 1911 pistol I'm willing to wait and stick it out. :D

A person that works with steel for a living might not be that into spending time at the computer, although there do seem to be some makers that are active here. Also you don't know if the person is out of town, his computer is broken, his email thinks you are spam, any number of reasons you can't reach him.

If I was trying to reach a maker to discuss purchasing something I might try an email but if that didn't work I would try to call on the telephone. If I couldn't reach them I would think they were busy or traveling and I would keep trying. If I was unable to get any confidence with them after discussing things by phone then I would pick another maker.

I think some of the more renowned makers are probably so busy filling orders they don't really have much time to respond to the multiple e-mails a day they get requesting knives just to say they aren't taking orders.

Most of their websites will tell you they are not accepting orders and to either check back later or try to catch them at a show.

I checked his site and it said no more orders. I'm guessing he has a huge backlog. Lochsa luck, though.

Check out the For Sale by Maker section here at Bladeforums. Even if you don't see the exact perfect knife you have in mind, it's a good source of knifemakers who might have more time available.
