I am thinking about getting a 940-2 but I wanted to see if anyone thought a different knife is worth looking at. Only constraints from me are that it has to be less than 200$ and 3.5 or less blade length. Thanks!

U have a lot of options in sun $200 in Spyderco and Benchmade with great blade and handle materials honestly. You only need to think about the weight, aesthetics of knife to u. If you have ur eyes set on the 940 then better look at all the different versions and decide accordingly. From what i know there is the regular 940, 940-1, 940-2, 940-1501, 940-1401 i think.

The 1501 and 1401 ate exclusives one is Knifeworks and the other i cant remember but it has D2 steel with CF handle and wood bolsters

The 940-1601 is a Cablela's exclusive knife with D2 steel, CF handle and wood bolsters.

The 20CV vs S90V is debatable imo. 20CV gets a better mirror polish but in terms of edge retention i would say S90V.

The 943 is an amazing choice though. Wish they had more variations on that one

940-2 is basically a perfect knife. It was the first one I bought and I can't think of any ways to improve it, other than having a version in titanium. The knife is gorgeous, feels great, and has the legendary BM service. I also like how it's an Osbourne design that has a big place in BM's overall history.

One thing about the 940-2 that stands out to me is it doesn't show many signs of wear over time, since the blade is satin finished and scales are g10. Also, the balance point is right where your index finger sits if you're the type of person who appreciates that.

If that knife didn't exist and I was looking for something else in its segment (long and thinnish gentlemen's knives, nice quality and warranty) and within your constraints, I'd probably get a ZT450cf:

940-1 looks way better with mirrored edge ;) it has darker blade and its nightmare sharp :O

Love my plain old 940. It flicks open better than any other knife I have. Can be opened and closed in a number of different ways. And takes up little room in the pocket. Also, I'm always amazed that a blade that long fits in the handle.
