Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and I love it. Wish I knew about it sooner...

Anyways I'm looking to get a custom knife made and was wondering who is the best to go to?

I fell in love with the Ontario RTAK 2. It is by far the best camp knife design I have come across.

I'd like to have a custom knife made which is very similar but with several modifications:

-I would like it to be in 5160 steel as opposed to the 1095.

-I would like it to be 1/4 inch throughout the blade and tang. The RTAK 2 is only 3/16

-A spear style point as opposed to a drop point.

Can anyone help me out, Thanks!

Welcome Tuscarora. There are many, many custom makers out there with a plethora of knife designs. I would recommend that you check out the makers forum. You will find a lot to like and may find a maker that makes a knife very much like the one you're looking for.

Checking the maker's for sale area is a good start - lots of great knives at good prices and you may find something that fits your needs.

The number of makers who could make you a knife such as you have described is quite vast. The limiting factors for you will be how much you have to spend and how long you are willing to wait.

Also - I'm not sure what your level of familiarity is with the vast array of custom camp knife designs - but you may want to check out this thread:

The RTAK 2 looks like a solid piece, but I don't know that I would proclaim it to be by far the best camp knife design within the custom context.

For a good look at Custom Knives in general and whose making what, you may want to pick up a copy of "Knives 2011" in addition to the advice above.
