Well let's back up... I had a few, and sold them to fund other knives, which I do not regret since I can still get the 710-1401.
But, I digress, I loved the m390, and Really liked the knife but since I had it for such a short amount of time (2 weeks, if that), I am not sure what it is capable of.

What I am asking is this: What is the most physically demanding task you have asked from your Benchmade, 710 in particular and how did it fare? I want to get an honest feel based upon real world experience what the 710, the axis lock, and Benchmades other knives are able to withstand and what specifically they cannot.

Abuse, sure. prying on a knife laterally, perfect. Batoning and spine whacking (cringe), why not...

What is THE Worst you have put a Benchmade through?

Bill if your fan of the BK2 and like Benchmade and haven't tried an Adamas I really would if i was you. It's amazing. Can beat and beat on it. I'm going into woods tomarrow and do some batoning and will be back with pics. Have already cut down trees and cut through tin cans but will do some batoning and be back.

You should check out Benchmade's YouTube channel. They have a few test videos on there.

So 125 views and not one person had used a Benchmade to the point of failure? I guess the number of people using their knives to open only mail is higher than I had previously thought,

I would like to know what has caused failures whether expected or not, and what had failed.

Thanks Ulf, will do.
Jon: I'll give them another look, but I dont think I saw as much as I would have liked pertaining to my question directly.

I think there is a big difference between use and abuse. Any tool will fail if used improperly and I'd never think of batoning or prying with a folding knife unless it was an emergency.

But I admit that I'm not a "hard user" of my knives and really haven't owned any of my Benchmades long enough to know how well they hold up to sustained hard use.

Why not just carry a .25" thick fixed blade if you need to use it as a pry bar? We have a crowbar at work if I need to open up a crate...I use my knife to cut things.

That's the thing. I do not intend to use my knife as a pry bar, or even plan on putting any lateral pressure on my planned purchase nor any that I already own, but the question remains.

What amount of damage has caused your Benchmade to fail? I just want to see what real world use OR abuse has caused one to break.

I know that they are reputed to be strong knives that are loved by many, and I'm not trying to argue either of those points. I have owned a 940, 943 and a 710 and they each had their strengths, I just would like to know where the boundaries lie.

Red: I have a BK2 @.25 and I still would prefer to pry with something designed for prying.

Go on benchmades website, they have testimonials of real world situations where the person had to "use" their knife... ranging from cutting for envelope to using it as an oil filter wrench...

I saw some Russian guys using and borderline abuse Adamas 275. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWz_JLXgIL0
He used to cut 2x6 with rubber mallet, open tin cans and still cuts 1x1 wood. Combined with Benchmade lab test, I don't think you can have tougher folder.

In my experience, I have not abused any folding knife. Any hard use have never even loosened up BKC folders.

In the youtube, DocP91b uses hard with Adamas and Contego test over multiple movie clips.
