Hey everyone, I am thinking about getting my first Busse/ first real fixed blade but with so many models idk where to start. I want something small, good for general backpacking/hiking, good for general yard work and utility work (i.e. cutting up cardboard or burlap when planting trees or some zipties), but most of all ill be using it to clean game (mostly deer but also fish and maybe some turkey). What would you guys suggest? I was thinking maybe a mean street or sar 3. Thanks!!

I hear good things about the active duty. I have not got one yet or hear many reviews as far as cleaning game, but for a general purpose camping/backpacking edc you can order a mean street (3.5" blade) direct from Busse website .

AMS would be a good choice and they are available direct. Active Duty would require a visit to a show that Busse is attending and assuming they have them, or from a 3rd party in the exchange. Both would be great choices.

Welcome to the forum and Search is your friend....There are a number of good threads for all of the above mentioned
Blades....AMS directly from the Busse Store is great deal....The Exchange has items that pop up often and 2 that I like
to use (before I got my AMS) were the Game Warden(GW) and Active Duty(AD) All 3 very fine for small tasks...for Hiking
and Camping they are OK...Little undersized for wood chopping duties...Good Luck with your Selection these are fine hard
working Knives!!!!

Smitty you and Anheuser made me cave in, I have been checking this active duty out for the last couple weeks...................and I just pulled the trigger! By the way my future active duty is on the top and a leaner meaner (which I think would also be a great blade for your needs) is on the bottom.

UPDATE: Sobered up and got a moment of clarity.... so went with a little bit cheaper AD model that will leave me some extra sheath money. Have a great weekend everyone.... and to those at the show, I know you will!

That's Sar 3 for sale right now would be a very nice choice, I have a anorexic boss street for sale that would also be good, and the best thing I think would be if you could get one of the recently offered AMSMO knives . Good luck

A polished Game warden with the thinner blade, comes with a nice leather sheath on Eabay right now

I say active duty as well, just got mine recently. Before that I got a NMFSH, and while the NMFSH is a beast of a knife, the AD will get a lot more use!

Looking good on day 1

And here it is, sitting next to my brand new drop point RMD and my favorite user ever the Chopweiler

I'm rather partial to my Mean Street and MBC, they're the perfect size to use for just about everything you could imagine. They're not too big and they fit well in the hand. Good luck in your search

I agree with everyone on the AMS, great knives that are currently available from Busse direct. I just got a couple of the AMSMO's in the last Gaanza and they're great small knives, but I haven't carried them yet (waiting on sheaths). I also have a Leaner Meaner (it's the brother to Worldwood's AD above) I got from Knifehunter and am very attached to it (been carrying it every chance I get) :)

You just can't go wrong with any small Busse, if you don't like it, sell it on the exchange and try another model.

Good luck!!!!!!!!

I'll be the odd man out here (as usual) and recommend going a little bit larger.

The Pork Shank gets my vote, it will have more utility than a 3.5" blade and will still work great for processing game. I'm hoping to put mine to use on a deer (or a dozen) this year, can't wait!

+1 for the Pork Shank. You can use it for all tasks mentioned and it's big enough to be used for wood prep. It has a 5 inch blade (including the large choil), 9 3/4 overall. Also not bad for concealed carry. There are better Busse's for specific tasks. But for multi-purpose use, it's hard to beat the Pork Shank.

Wanted a knife I could throw in my pocket with a sheath, and not have it stick out to much. I also don't have large hands so I don't need the extra handle length of the AMS.
