I'm looking to have a knife built per my own design. I want to be able to use this knife for fishing, camping, survival, etc. Pleasing to the eye, but a workhorse. You can find a picture here...

I was thinking about 440C stainless steel. I'd be glade to supply the
material. I'm not against 1095 as long as I can get a protective
coating cause I know it's prone to rust.
My drawing shows a hollow grind but I think a flat grind would also
work. I designed the steel thickness @ 5/32".
I'd like to have black or green micarta for the handles with 2 pins.
I'm planning on having a kydex sheath made after the knife is completed.

If anyone is interested, my email is scmaybin@gmail.com

Thanks,

I would start in the "Makers" section of this forum. There are a lot of great custom knife makers here.

Have you made your knife out of something like a paint stick? I am just wondering how you will end up liking the cool curve and groves and placement of the curve on top. I like 5/32 too, when 1/8 is just too small and 3/16th is too big.

That's always a good idea. Even cardboard or cereal box stuff will give you an idea how comfortable it is. I question the super-straight handle.

It's a sleek, do-able design, though. I imagine you'll get a few quotes. Many makers do their own kydex sheaths too, so you may be able to get it all done in one shot.

Email sent.

I also recommend taking a look in the makers forum. Look at Flecher Knives. I think you will like his knives. I have bought a few knives from makers and I have found that they always come up with a better knife if I just tell them the basic stuff I am looking for. Let their past experience work in your favor.

slick cad work firewolf.

Handle and gimping/thumb location look like problem to me. Hold a stick or something and see where your fingers like to rest.

That's what I was gonna say. I really like your design, except the thumb "thing". This will get very uncomfortable after minimal usage. Designing knives is fun, isn't? I'm sure you'll find a maker to make you this beauty
