Looking to Love the Leek...

Yesterday, I was browsing in the local Brick & Mortar and noticed they had a few Kershaw Leeks in the display case. I've never handled one before, so I asked to see it: I instantly liked the size, weight, blade-shape, and super-keen factory edge. It looked like it could be a cool little gentleman's EDC. The guy at the shop said he'd give me $10 off the price on top of my usual 10% discount-and-points perk, so I decided I'd give it a go. I left with a brand new 1660CKT Leek.

Well, I got it home and started playing with it. I then noticed it has no ball-detent. Since I don't want to be constantly messing with the safety, I decided to move the clip for tip-up carry to add a little more security. Then I noticed that the clip suffered the same issues as my former Blur: super tight and could not easily be seated to the top of the clip... the knife is about 4" closed, and damn near half of the handle was sticking out of the pocket. So, I took the clip off again and bent it out a little. The knife now seats in the pocket to the top of the clip, and only a mere 1 1/4" protrudes...

Please help me feel the love for the Kershaw Leek! I'm sure there must be a few fans out there somewhere. :o

I still think the Leek is a handsome little folder, but the jury's still out on whether or not it's a keeper...

And for those of you who enjoy a little knife-porn, here's a pic of my Zing asserting its dominance over the Leek in a romantic tropical setting... :D

I love my Leek. As 5.56 says, it's great for detailed cutting. The blade geometry is awesome :D

Titanium Leek with ZDP-189 steel. When your credit card is bigger than your brain.

If the amount of knife sticking out in tip up position is a problem you could look to have a low rider clip made for it.

Sure I could. But after I tack on the extra $50 or so for a custom clip, shipping, and whatnot, I will have grossly overpaid for this knife, imo. I'm trying hard to like it enough as it is...

Thanks though. I've heard STR makes some stellar clips.

my edc is a kershaw b lur but lately ive been grabbing my green leek for my hikes, its a bit lighter and so easy to carry. I put a nice lanyard on it and am liking in more every time I carry it. Its not a big cutter, but good for a day when you dont plan on doing much cutting. fits in the pocket good, the tight clip helps me not lose it, I hate a lost knife. I think you'll grow to love it like I have, it did take me almost 3 years.

Thank you all for the comments, but the love just ain't happening. Hopefully, my Leek will find a better home soon... :)

Cheers!

Sorry to hear it....I usually go clipless or Tip down on a Leek. That solves the protrusion issues. The knife opening in your pocket is very unlikely. I have carried Leeks for years and have never had a misfire. Might happen tomorrow or 1 million years from now, but, the numbers are really in your favor.

You can send it to me, I'll provide a comfortable, well-adjusted home for it! :D

I use to have two of them a OCC and my plain jane. I parted with the OCC but I'm still crazy about my PJ model it is just a great all around knife!

I am pleased to report that my (former) Leek has been adopted to a new home. The new owner is completely smitten with the design, elated by its performance, and went as far as to question my sanity in parting with such a fine blade...

Who doesn't love a happy ending? ;)

Would of been a happier ending if it had ended up in my well-adjusted, secure household...;)

I've been looking at the G10 Leek. A little pricier, but I do like Kershaw's G10 if the OD-1 is any indicator.
My only beef is that every vendor only shows one side of the knife. What the heck does the clip side look like?
