I am looking at buying a Rescue 93 and would like to know the difference in available inventory out there. The same numbers are available in VG-10 or ATS-34. Which is the better steel, which is the newer inventory?
Do you have a preference to the fully serrated or the serrated with 1-inch of PlainEdge?
The usage would be Canoeing and race marshaling. All advise is welcome.
Thanks

For use in and around water, I think that I would choose a rust proof Atlantic Salt.

To answer your questions, VG10 is the newer/current steel for the Rescues and I believe most here would prefer VG10 to ATS34 although they are similar in performance.

Personally, I like either full plain edged or fully serrated edges, but if I was limited to carrying one on a canoe trip, I think that I would have a slight preference for the one with the 1” of plain edge over a fully serrated version.

Good luck with your selection!
