Looking to Replace a Schrade Peanut

Recently I've replaced my Kershaw 3" blade Vapor and Benchmade Axis TSEK with a small 2 blade Shrade Peanut, with a clip and pen knife blade (I think its a pen blade). I've carried the Schrade off and on for years, and the recent use has got it on its last legs. I've filed down the kick on both blades more than once. Anyway, is there a reasonably priced (<$40) carbon steel replacement on the market? I've taken to grinding the edge very thin, 15 degrees per side or less, and find that stainless has trouble with that, well, my TSEK stainless anyway. I've used/carried the trapper and peanut patterns, but would be willing to try others.

me2,
I recently picked up a brand new two blade Case Peanut with red derlin scales and an American flag shield for 12. + 4. shipping = 16. total on eBay. The blades came nearly razor sharp and its got half stops as well. A wonderful little knife all around..:)

There's a red bone CV (carbon steel) bladed Case available too, for $30-35. Here for instance. No connection, just passing on a link.

Oh, and the classic yellow Delrin model, also in CV.

I have the classic yellow handle in CV. I picked it up at my local Tru Value for $22 plus tax. Great snap, crisp half stops, good blades, and just a nice little knife all around.

There are still USA made Schrades out there. Ebay has a wide selection available, and some stores still have old stock.

That is, assuming you still want a Schrade. :)

The 72OT stopped being made a few years before Schrade went under, I believe that the last of them went out as a commemorative. They may be a bit harder to locate than some of the others. Dandy little knife though.

I picked one up on e-bay awhile back nib for less than $30. My wife carries a yellow handled Case peanut in cv. Both are great little knives.

Just remember, me2, whatever you get you have to let us know the details and show pics if you can. ;)

Interesting note. Today my usual carries just seemed heavy in my pocket. Something they usually don't do. So I tossed the lil yaller peanut in my pocket. Carried like it wasn't there and did what I needed done. Even after the unusual 12 hr day it was carrying like a feather. A sharp feather with a patina, but light just the same.

Exactly the appeal that had me looking for another. Small, light, sharp, and tough enough to cut sheet rock. Yes I did it, but only a couple of times.

I like that- a sharp feather.

I ended up missing the yellow CV peanut I gave my grandson so I bought another. I find my edc knives geting smaller as I get older. Don't know if its the weight or experiance of years finally gave me some finese for cutting jobs.(Ya mean there may be a benifit to getting old???) Just got the new Smoky Mountain catalogue in the mail and I'm eyeing a peanut in bone stag with true sharp. I'd prefer the cv, but I do like thelooks of the bone stag.

Aside from the peanut being a nice pocket knife, the pen blade is just right for reaming the bowl of a Peterson 314 pipe.

Not sheet rock  !! (shudder:( awful stuff to cut! Packs up a knife like nothing else:grumpy: !)

There are a lot of nice looking Case peanuts in different handle material. It's almost enough to make a guy want to start a peanut collection. Then I'd really have a time trying to figure out what to carry. Maybe just a nice bone, stag, or bone stag one to compliment the yellow handle workhorse.

I made mention of the peanut at work over in the carving thread. Reminds me, I need to check the pivot area for BBQ sauce. ;)

It gets worse. The blades had been reground (by hand, mind you) on a slack belt all the way to a full convex profile right to the edge. My estimates put the edge angle below 30 dgrees included. After 600 grit, it was stropped on white compound on leather. After 4 cuts it would still scrape shave hair.

A while back Bill Horn from Cumberland had some real nice stag Schatt & Morgan peanuts. I think they were ATS-34.
