I got this on trade locally off of a classified site. The original owner was asking $300.He said he got this a long time ago from a friend he visited in Richmond, VA who had some connection to EK. He said it came in this display box with no sheath?
He said the walnut handles are more valuable and his $300 was on the low end?
This Knife is AWESOME! I want to keep it but am almost positive will be posted for sale shortly... Anybody know what It's worth?

Very nice can't tell you what it's worth but I had a similar model my handle was black and was made in Effingham IL. Came with a black leather sheath with 2 Velcro retaining straps bought mine in the 80s .So I think yours is older do you have the sheath for it? All I have left of mine is the book that came with it knife was stolen few years ago if I had the money I'd give $300 to get it back. Sure someone who knows a lot more than me will be along with more answers for you.

According to their site the Walnut grip is a new line that lists for "$279 and up". But then judging from the pic that knife does look older than that. It would have to be dated after 1982 since that is the date the company moved to Richmond, VA, and it probably precedes 1992 since there is no mention of "Gulf War" on the logo. That would place it within a 10 year period or so.

All EK knives have a serial number. Does yours? If so you should be able to look it up.

Price is determined by what a buyer is willing to pay. So post in the Exchange starting at say $350, and lower your price say $25/day until it sells. You have now found its value.

This. Ek's never sell very well or quickly on forums as far as I've seen. They're on flebay all the time though

This Knife has no serial number or any marking beyond the emblem I showed. Hmmm that's weird

Everytime I get a knife I plan on selling, I don't want to part with it. But knives like these enable me to see and handle cool knives I wouldn't have had and get money to buy my users!
Maybe it's because I've never seen or handled a fully edged dagger this size (or any size) But I must say there is no doubt in your mind when you hold it, that this knives endorsements are not from a culinary Institute.
It does not want to do bushcraft.
To have this in kydex on the leg would be awesome!!
This knife has me interested now in military knives... I only was much familiar with ka-bar usmc, but I bet there's other awesome blades of military might. This EK Commando is BAD TO THE BONE!!

That's good information thank you. I'm going to hold off and find out a couple things.
1.Why it came in this display box instead of sheath.
2.Why there is no serial number.
I'll email EK and see

I just pulled up the Wikipedia article on Ek Knives and discovered a few things.

First, it appears that Ek was bought by Blackjack and moved to Effingham, IL in 1993. Legion, your knife likely came from this era. Blackjack went bankrupt in 1997 and sold out to Century Intl Arms. So anyway, my statement above about always having serial numbers may have been true in the company's early history but who knows if they continued it after '82. This may explain why yours doesn't.

The Blackjack Ek's are not marked "Richmond."

The Ek's made for one of the companies not in Richmond that claimed to have rights to the name post-1997 are not marked "Richmond."

The Ek Ek's are not marked "Richmond."

Not all knives marked "Ek" have serial numbers. The WWII knives made by Mr. Ek had serial numbers.

Some of the knives made in Richmond by the company that owned the name and was HQ'd there were made in the U.S. Some were made in Japan. They aren't talking.

I think spydercobenchmadekai pegged it.

Many of the Ek's on ePrey are misrepresented, but that's hardly news.
