I would like to sell my Remington 700 CDL .30-06. The rifle is in excellent condition with well under 200 rounds through it since purchased. I need some extra spending money for a road trip in a couple of weeks. Gun was built in 2004 and purchased new from Bass Pro in 2007. What is the best way to unload the gun quickly? Gunbroker? A local shop? It has a Zeiss Conquest 3-9 x 40 mounted but I may want to keep the scope. Any Idea on a value w/ and w/o scope? Thanks.

I wouldn't comment on value without seeing the rifle, but I think your best bet for selling it is Gunbroker.com

Idaho has a online site called ZIdaho. It is run by local TV/Newspaper group. Think craigslist except clean cut, and they let you sell firearms. If your area has a site like that it is probably your best bet. I know for the Boise area it is a great place to get a decent price buying or selling. I hope this helps.

Do you have a popular forum in your state kind of like this one? In Indiana we have a few but INGO is by far the most popular and the classifieds gets a ton of traffic.

+1 on gunbroker. Scroll through the listings and see what they are asking for similar rifles. Also check Guns America and auction arms.

A dealer will typically give you 50% of the wholesale price depending on the condition and desirability of the rifle. That may seem harsh,
but that's the way it is. If you don't want to deal with it yourself, you may consider putting it on consignment. A dealer usually takes 20 to
30% of the selling price.

To be brutally honest, your chances of selling it quickly are somewhere between zero and none unless you are willing to take a beating.

Not sure about MD laws, but in Louisiana we can buy and sell firearms to resident to resident with no paperwork. With that said, I recently had good luck at the local gun show, basically I made a sign and walked around till someone bit. Took about 1 hr to sell a handgun and an AR-15.

Ditto's on gunbroker.com and also checking your local gun laws first. But there's also checking with your local gun shoppe and see if they'll sell it and also act as FFL if a buyer appears. If your state doesn't require one, then you may want to try craigslist, just make sure to feel out any prospective buyers depending on the weapon..

Cheers,
Serge

Whenever you sell a firearm, it's best for both parties to have a little papertrail.

Take two pieces of paper. On the first write: In consideration of $X cash money received this 21st of July, 2011 from him, I do hereby sell Mr. John Smith of Baltimore, MD my Remington 700 CDL .30-06 rifle serial number 123456. I represent that this firearm is my lawful propery to sell. Signed... Dttomcat, Baltimore, MD.

On the second page, write: In exchange for $x cash money which I have paid to him on this 21st of July, 2011, I am buying from Mr. Dttomcat of Baltimore, MD his Remington 700 CDL .30-06 rifle serial number 123456. I am taking immediate possession of this firearm. Signed... John Smith, Baltimore, MD

You each sign the appropriate paper and each receives the opposite.

If the gun is subsequently found to have been used in a crime in Seattle, Washington last year, Mr. Smith has some plausible evidence that the purchased the gun this year in Baltimore, Maryland from someone who represented the gun as legitimate.

If, on the other hand, next year the police knock on your door saying they found your gun at a crime scene in Newark, New Jersey, you have plausible evidence that you sold it this year to a guy in Baltimore, MD who took possession of it at that time.
