I have a basic horse leather strop that I used strop prep on and then the buffing rouge from sears. I use a toothbrush to work the rouge into the strop before I use it. Its been really good but I'm guessing that its far from the optimal setup.
Id like to get a nice russian leather strop and perhaps some proper stropping compound. I'm primarily finishing things in ZDP189, VG10 and D2, but I do use some 1095 and other lower stainless.
Also, can I use something different than the red buffing rouge as an intermediate stropping compound? Something with a larger micron size than what I use on my finishing strop to prepare it faster?
