It's a shame, looks like all Brous Blade models are now being offered by Brous in a "import line", from China.

The Enforcer, Reloader, Division, Silent Soldier, and T4 all look to be same dimensions, with D2, but made out of the country.

Personally I think it devalues the USA made product that Brous makes, and possibly shows some sort of desperation to lower costs and increase profit.

Anyone heard why they are moving and would this affect your future purchase if you were looking at one of their models?

I suppose to "lower costs and increase profit."

And given Brous' history, where his knives are made does not affect whether or not I would buy one of his products.

In what way?

Brous is having their "Budget Line" made in China, just like Spyderco and other US manufactures have done. Hopefully the budget line will put more Brous knives into people's hands, people who otherwise wouldn't pay the prices of Brous' premium models, thereby increasing Brous' brand recognition and value. Following the classic marketing funnel, these people will have a positive experience with their budget model (hopefully) and will be more willing to take the step up (conversion) into the premium line in the future.

By the way, here's a recent statement from Brous, "We HAVE in the past got many of our screws and clips made in china though." So even your premium US made Brous knives have already been partially made in China.

I agree with marcinek, "...where his knives are made does not affect whether or not I would buy one of his products."

Can we get a link to the source for this information? I am curious to read about it myself.

Where his knives are made doesn't affect me in the slightest since I am unlikely to ever buy one of his blades.

Exactly. Its not about "China," to me, ts about Brous.

That said, I do proudly consider myself among these folks from back in the Kut Throat Knives days..."Unfortunately for him, his design drew harsh criticism from some all-knowing keyboard commandos."

He discusses it in this video.

Weren’t there rumours that Brous was having some of his knives made in China already and only assembling them stateside? I don’t know if there was any truth to that. And apparently according to post #3 in this thread he says he was getting clips and screws from China. I had never seen anything definitive like we all saw with Quartermaster knoifs.

I've met Jason and I watched the video from SHOT in which he explained his whole rationale for doing what he is doing. He wants to make a number of his premium models available for entry-level buyers, maybe younger budding collectors. We more serious collectors can still drop the $ on his designs and still get a USA made, progressive design product with high-quality USA D2 steel. The fact that I won't be spending a dime on Brous' plastic handle, Chinese knock-offs is really beside the point, which is to make Brous' badass designs available to the casual buyer. I think its nice move. Not for every US maker, but a nice move still.

Ole Kut Throat's behaviour has'nt been altogether dignified.

For that and other reasons (the knives themselves), Im unlikely to ever buy one of his blades regardless of origin.

I'm not typically interested in Brous so I skipped that video when it first came across my feed. Watching it now as a guy who is interested in the development of the Chinese cutlery industry, I found it really informative. He makes it real clear that he's moved to Chinese, entry-level-price production to compete with the counterfeiters and cloners.

Which is pretty damn ironic.

Well, if he is having his knives made in China, they aren't really knock-offs are they?

Are you more put off by his new line being made in China or being made with plastic handles?

Spyderco definitely has passed on the savings to customers on the China made stuff. Spyderco China is top quality too, mostly it's a dip in steel quality and a China label is what your getting.

Can someone send me a link or something to why people seem to not want to buy Brous knives based on Brous the person?

I can't give you a link but I can describe in brief:

A lot of people didn't like the silliness and attitude of Kut Throat Knives. More damningly, he was pretty convincingly accused of ripping off one of his designs. I think it was the Division.

That might help with the Googling. :)
