I just got my first Randall in the mail today
smile.gif
It is the model 25 Trapper. Randall has always been on my list of knives I wanted to get...just never did...until now
smile.gif
I hope it lives up to all the good press it gets. Out of the box, its a VERY nice looking knife, almost to pretty to use....almost

What do all you Randall owners think of yours? Are they as good a performers as is said? Also, I wasnt able to find on AG Russells site (where this knife came from) what kind of steel this is. Anybody know? Steel type is not to important, im just curious. Thanks.

It's O-1. If it were stainless (440B), there would be an "S" stamped next to the Randall logo.

Nice knife!

Ryan...thanks, I thought I remembered reading somewhere that they used 01...but I couldnt remember for sure.

Greg, thanks. Im on ICQ at all different times...I will keep an eye out for ya.

Dan...glad to hear that you like your Randalls...im sure this one will be a good knife.

Now, I have a couple more questions that maybe important down the road
smile.gif
Is there anything I can do to maintain the leather part of the handle, I dont want it to rot. Also, does stag require any special treatment? Are the black spacers made of micarta? Any tips would be much appreciated, as I want to make sure this knife lasts for my lifetime and my sons when he gets it

Oh yeah, just a quick run down on how I ended up with this knife. For the past few years, several actually I have wanted a Randall. So, back before Christmas, my parents asked me if I would like to have a Randall...of course I jumped at the chance. Christmas came and went, and no Randall. I never mentioned it after that, they have done enough for me when they raised me waaaayyy back when
smile.gif
Anyways, last week my mom calls and says, did you ever get that knife from us? I said nope, never did. As it turns out, mom thought dad got it, and dad thought mom ordered it....nobody ordered it
smile.gif
So she says, well, we really wanted you to have it, so call AG Russell and find out if they have one. I called, they had it, parents ordered it, and now I have it

Very cool Randall. That model is one of the ones I figured would be great for being a real user. Yes, the stag does need care but I.m not exactly sure how to do it. Ask on the shop talk forum or call/e-mail A.G. Russel or Randall Knives for what they do to care for those knives. You did good getting the stag/leather handle- it is a real beauty and you'll feel good when using it once you know how to care for it properly. Those black spacers could be vulcanized fibre. It is a spacer material many knife makers use that comes in many colors nad is tough stuff. I'm not exactly sure though. I hope I didn't confuse you too much!
