First, let me say:
I am not bashing the other brands, and they are very good in and of themselves.

But Jerry beat the rest of the market with the Bushwhacker. I think it's interesting that it debuts only a month before ESEE (formerly RAT Cutlery) unveiled their Junglas (another 10" blade, .187" thick knife), and Ron Hood brings out his Hoodlum (10" blade, .187" thick, made of 5160).

That, right there, is a smart businessman.

Jennifer advises Jerry and he brings it to the front. Now you're up to speed. :D

Ah, hadn't heard about the Hoodlum. Where does one find info on that?

Time for Horn Dog to do a Chop-OFF!!

I guess that's why he's the BOSS HOG!!

IIRC, the Battle Mistress has been around for a while. ;) I think several makers probably noticed similar market trends around the same time, and responded independently of each other. I don't think anyone was intentionally "aping" anyone else here.

Hey, looking at your sig, you know a lot of the photos on the HI website are photos that I took of my knives right. :D

In my unselfish and dedicated quest to provide those on the internet with chopping entertainment, I even bought another BWM and left the factory edge on it to compare it to the new Junglas. Trouble is, my house is now so full of choppers, compasses won't work within 50 yds. I need to have a clearance sale or something. Beckers, RATs, Rangers, Barkies only, so INFI hogs need not get their hopes up for scoring a discount Busse chopper. :D

I noticed the specs on the Hoodlum. It is really light.

Add Bark River to that list. The Bravo 3 has been planned for a year or so, but will be coming out in the next couple of months. Not sure how thick, though. It may be more along the lines of the FBM. Or maybe even the MOAB.

(I think at one time he said he was aiming for around a 12" blade).

The Bravo III is in water jet cutting now. No official word on how big it is, only that it is BIG and in CPM3V steel. It may not be in the same size and weight category as the BWM and Junglas.

Dude, I may be wrong, but I don't think anyone but Jerry is allowed to call her that. . .

But seriously, I don't think anyone made anything like the BM (except the Bussekin equivalents), since it is probably the one knive that draws the most heat for being a sharpened prybar.

Not accusing anyone of anything.
BUT, The RTAK and RTAKII (both .187 thick 10" long knives) were very popular, and Jeff Randall said he was surprised at how many sold. We (including me) have been hollering to ESEE for an updated RTAK since RAT Cultery got started.
The Hood Hunter from Fehrman was popular, but people clamored for a lighter version.

So, no doubt makers have had them int he design stages for a while. Just pointing out that Jerry beat them to market, with what the market has been crying for, and at a price that isn't much more than some of the other company's models.

On top of that, I'm surprised the Hoodlum is a preorder of only 50 and there's still some left. I would venture that Jerry could post a preorder a.k.a. ganzaa (a la SFNO LE) and sell 500 in 3 hours or less!

He could do a CG version of the SAR 8 and sell 3 times that at least. :D ;)

Very true. He could also drop the nuclear meltdown to further reduce production costs...

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::
I'll take it!

He could drop the thumb jimping too, since that probably wouldn't play nicely with a coating.

The BOSS HG55 CGs and MOs had a coating with the thumb jimping and seemed to have worked fine on those. ;)

But Agreed that if he was after the lowest cost variation,
they could go and not be too missed.

Although, I've read that lots of folks like them for striking a fire steel.
But I really can't comment on it... I don't use a knife for that.
