So way back when Andy submitted his knives to be judged by the Knife Guild, he upon his acceptance posted his AMAZING knives for sale. I didn't have the money, so I missed out on the ones that spoke to me the most. It seemed as though they all had sold, but a good while later I contacted Andy to see if there just happened to be any left. There was one. It was a Hiking Buddy with Maroon micarta over natural with white pinstripes and a mosaic pin. The combo has never really drawn my attention as there are many other combos I prefer. Well, all that said, I wanted in on a historical knife and also one that was 100% made by the man himself! So I took the plunge and got the knife. It took its typical many months to find its way down to me in South America. When it arrived I was blown away!!! What an amazing knife! I love the HB to begin with, but my other HB just lacked the soul that this one has. This handle fills my hand perfectly and has an amazing tapered tang. The color combo also oozes class. This is one dressy knife. Not to mention all the awesome energy and attention poured into the making of this knife . . . I mean he only submitted his BEST work to the Knife Guild.

Without further delay:

Congrats! You landed one heck of a knife. Well worth the wait. How Fiddleback Forge knives fit the handle is really difficult to describe. You just have to hold one to know how it feels to be such a natural extension of your own hand.

Great looking knife. I have always been honored that you like my knives. Thanks for the post. I was very proud of those knives. They were only one year ago. I still have one here for sale. A Bocote Bearcub.

Beautiful piece of Fiddleback history. Congratulations.

If I remember correctly, there was a monarch in that batch of knives for guild review that "spoke" to me the most. A well deserved honor for Andy. I don't look much anymore outside of Fiddleback Forge and family for my cutlery needs. He makes exceptional knives

That is a classy looking hiking buddy with that handle combo for sure. I love the grind and the taper on it too!

Maroon with a beauty mark, very nice SA. That handle configuration is one of my favorites.

Nice post! I know exactly what you mean about the fit and finish and the energy. Andy really put his heart and soul into these knives. I edc my Handyman, and since I have never gotten the hang of the fork and spoon method of pasta eating, don't care for the twirly method, and don't have much luck cutting pasta in a bowl with my fork, I used it today while out on a lunch date with my wife. I thought it fitting with the spicy Low Country sauce with the craw fish :)

Wait...seriously, bocote? I think we may have just set a new record for the number of times I have cussed you and contemplated armed robbery in the same breath and thought train one week...:p

 Epic Hiking Buddy SA Condor, Congrats! I remember drooling over a Emerald Monarch from that batch, just hesitated too much on pulling the trigger.

That is a very special knife Luke. As Tod said above, beautiful taper and a nice high grind. The mosaic pin adds a nice touch of class to an already elegant package.

Congratulations on scoring an heirloom piece with a great backstory in Fiddleback history.

Phil

Out of the Fiddlebacks I own, this one is even more exceptional and they are all exceptional! I think Andy made this one for me even though he didn't know it at the time!

To be fair, I've not owned any of the larger knives. I look forward to seeing how some of those fit in hand when I get to visit the shop.

Andy, the honor is mine. I love having a piece of FF history. I can't believe you still have one left! You did keep one yourself, right?

If I remember correctly, that Monarch was the one that sang to me too . . . although now that I have this HB, I have no regrets!

Yeah, the grind and taper are amazing on this one.

That's a beautiful knife. Congrats SA!!!

Couldn't agree more!

It wasn't on my radar before. Now that I've had for some time, it really oozes class. I won't overlook the combo again.

You're Handyman was the other one that spoke to me out of the group! This batch truly were taken to another level. And that's something since the regular 'bar' is already set so high.

Heirloom indeed! My 2 oldest daughters have already fixed their sights on it!

I'm leaving most of my Fiddlebacks here in Bolivia for our few months back in the US. That being said, this one is traveling with me!

That knife is the single most special knife I own, and I own a few very special pieces, because it was a part of a very special moment in time for someone I have come to consider a dear friend. Then add in that the knife itself is just stunningly well executed. I get fussed at for carrying and using it, but I just can't help it. My early life was a years long exercise in how life can unexpectedly change in the blink of an eye, and I can't enjoy things that are sitting at home locked in a safe. I think since Andy himself was an Eagle Scout, that it is fitting that I have been using this knife to teach small-knife skills in workshops with youth groups and kids interested in bushcraft skills.
