Im talking 16-18yrs.

Scored a CRK Professional Soldier that has my 6 day old grandsons birthdate on the birth card. It will be here this week.

I plan on storing this knife until his 16th or 18th birthday. Any suggestions for this long of storage? I was thinking of doing the entire box in a vacuum sealed food saver type bag.

I want to store it in such a way that it doesnt have to be opened or gotten into in anyway until the day he recieves it.

Any advice is awesome and thanks in advance.

It's coated so not much you would really need to do, just keep it in a dry place.

Just leave it in the box as it came.

Yep. Pretty much.

If you're worried at all, you can also use HDCi, which is the tougher version of EDCi solution, to coat the blade, and particularly the edge, until you take it out of storage. That would minimize any worry you really have about the humidity of the space, and the solution is food-safe and won't interfere with leather or natural materials from all that I have seen.

Probably won't be an issue though.

If you're overly concerned, before storing it in a nice dry place, just make sure the box has one of those little silica packets in it for added insurance, (if not, buy a new pair of shoes or a bag of beef jerky to get one)...

For a bit of added protection wipe it with a very light coat of oil...

For one more later of protection stick the box in a ziplock bag of wrap it in cling wrap (shrink wrap if you can)
..

But seriously just storing it in a dry place, esp. with a silica packet should suffice...

I kind of want to wrap it in the event im not on this earth when he gets of age to receive it. Im still leaning on vacuum sealing the entire box with a silica pack or two unless its highly not recomended to do so.

Kydex sheath and S35VN, so you can store it just about anywhere and you shouldn't have any problems. If it were a leather sheath you wouldn't want to store it in the sheath, but kydex isn't going to hurt anything. The birth card is in greater danger than the knife/sheath, I'd fold the box flat, place the card squarely on top of that and store the sheathed knife next to it in the same vacuum bag. Throw a silica packet in for good measure and done.

S35vn doesn't like to rust, just keep some silica packets with it and it should be good to go. Won't hurt to vacuum seal it unless it crushes the box. If you'r really worried oil it with ballistol or such but I would recommend just using lots of silica packets.

s35vn is quite corrosion resistant so it would likely be fine if you simply clean it and store it in a dry place. That being said if you want to be absolutely positive that it won't rust then give it a coating of cosmoline before storing it.

Why wait so long? I got my first real knife when i was 10. Grandpa gave me one when i was five, but within 5 minutes i broke the 'cut towards the dumbass' rule and got bit. Grandma made me give it back after that.. So maybe 5 is a little early, but 16 or 18?

Yeah I remember most boys playing with knives at about 10 or so.
I think my dad gave me a SAK when I was about that age.
