heres the first shot. had a heck of a time getting it out of that tree. thats a marpat boonie, for scale, or cool points or something

i was very impressed with this thing. i wasnt sure i would like it. i dont usually care for a walking stick, which is what the extra length is really there for, in my opinion. this is a different story entirely. this thing is in no way 'just' a walking stick. it is an instrument of destruction. it is also about the right height it be used as a rifle rest in a pinch.

i started off hacking dead pine branches up to as high is i could reach with a 2 handed grip and keeping my feet on the ground. no problems encountered, other than missing a few times.

after that i set up a section of live branch that had come off in the stormy weather we've been having. i used it to try out some aggressive movements. this was a green pine limb about 5" in diameter. i hit it 3 times, blade, spike blade. on the third strike the log cracked at the point of impact and bent a few degrees out of line.

i should mention that by the time i got to this point i had killed the battery on my camera, as it was apparently almost dead when i started, so i dont have any pictures of resulting damage. only a few glamor shots.

i only stayed out about 30 minutes, it was raining and cold and i had some things to get done. heres the rest of the pictures for your enjoyment

here it is pictured with a one of a kind bark river prototype golok. never another one made to my knowledge, this one has changed hands a few times, and had seen its share of use. i could send it back to michigan to make it pretty again for free, but the stains and patina give it character and i like it. the only warranty i have seen that is better than the bark river is the equinox coronado 'happiness guarantee.'

heres a shot showcasing the effectiveness of a multicam hawk at disappearing. i was impressed

finally, im not sure what this was supposed to be, but its pretty cool :D

I dig it. The walking stick combo is a great idea.

She's Hot !!! Keep up the good work Vector001
Scouter27 you are a... Lucky man...

brother scouter and two other brothers have really helped us out on the Poll Axe developments - there was this one, a modified Rifleman's Hawk, and a Trail hawk, all based on the Gen 1 Mk 1 Design composite handle, which was never intended to be that long, but we thought we'd give it a go and subject the wookies to it.

these guys have really helped us out, and are responsible for the evolution to the current handle model, the Gen 1 Mk 3, and future mods, like the sectional hawks we are aiming to do.

guys like brother scouter' make this whole Hawk Project worth doing.

it gives ya faith, ya dig...?

Semper Fi, brother.

Very cool.

There's a similar tool from Poland and Slovakia called the Valaška. It was used by Juraj Jánošík, who was kind of a Slovakian Robin Hood.

yeah, we heard about that after the fact - friends saw the vectorized poll axes and being more worldly than i, knew of the European subjects and sent us some info on them.

pretty neat to see!

Seems very cool! What are you using for a sheath? And what is the "stud" sticking out the bottom? That sure beats the pi$$ out of one of those "pod" sticks! What would you guess the weigh at?

i used a removable standard bolt for the foot, that is anchored with staggered metal fittings housed inside the shaft - it works great and is easily replaced or modified by the user thattaway, and also allows tool attachment.

we can put anything we want on a hawk though - that's the beauty of composites - our standard length Gen 1 Mk 3 hawks usually have our Cowled Steel Ring in that position.

i can't speak to the weight, as i lost that detail a while back - but most of my hawks hover at or near 1 ounce per inch, which i find a great way to do it.

if it is 48 inches long (plus hardware) - it is probably somewhere around 48 ounces, give or take 10 percent (4.8 ounces) - i let the hawks tell me what they want to be when i build them, instead of forcing my will on how they turn out - each one is an individual....

the funny thing that i never realized is, a poll axe is actually WEIGHTLESS, for all intents and purposes, because it almost always has ground contact.

that made me slap my head.

:D:thumbup:

for a sheath, i can't beat Survival Sheath Systems, so i encourage folks to go to Robert, if they want something fantastic, otherwise i cover the bit with some Cordura when i am not on the trail, preferring a bare head when on the move....

YMMV.

Reminds me of the "bear axes" from Slovakia. Might be just a gag, but they sell those as souveniers for tourists. A friend of mine has one - a walking stick with an axe head.
