Loose backspring on a Case stockman

About a year ago I purchased a Case "Rancher Stag" CV medium stockman. It stayed on my display board for the past year until I decided I wanted to start EDCing it. It is a great knife, however, I noticed that the backspring on the spey blade is sort of loose. It still has some tension, but the blade does not snap into the open position at all. When it's open, you can push on the blade and it will begin to close. The best way to describe it is it feels like an an Opinel. Is this something I should contact them about? Since I do plan on using the knife I'd like to have it fixed/replaced. I've never had a bad Case knife so I don't really know how their warranty works. And does it matter that the knife was purchased probaby around a year ago and I don't have a receipt or anything?

I've had good service from Case when returning knives for repair or exchange. It's been a while but I don't think I needed receipts and it doesn't matter how long you've had the knife.

Just keep in mind that they might replace the knife unless you insist on a repair.

Since I've never used it they should fix it. Case is good bout warranty work especially on knives that's never been used. I'd call them or shoot em an email first to make sure.

I was interested in getting my blue Peanut fixed.

I told them, via Email, what was wrong with it. I got an answer the next day. They told me, I should send them the knife with a little letter or whatever and description what´s wrong with it. I haven´t done it, yet. But the Email got answered very fast. I´ve heard here on BF some good experiences with Case´s warranty.

Kind regards
Andi

Yeah, I'll probably email them today. My only concern is that they'll get the knife and say nothings wrong with it, aha I maybe am being too picky but it was a $140 knife.

I've had outstanding service from them in the past. The blade should have some tension when open. They are all different though. Some have a lot of tension, others don't have as much.
Make sure you are very specific when you write the note. If you like the stag on yours, ask if the can try to closely match the scales, if for some strange reason they have to replace the knife.

Snap (or total lack of it) as you describe it is certainly wrong. You paid a lot for the knife and you are not being too fussy at all. They should replace it immediately, my experience of CASE in this situation was very satisfactory.
