I’ve had 4 117 Brahma knives. They all rattle a little. Guard and pommel. Do they all rattle?

I know leather shrinks and swells with humidity which is why its good to have a nut to tighten.

I stuck the one I use in a padded vise and turned the pommel nut it tightened the pommel but the guard still rattled. I took the nut and pommel off and the leather handle is fused or bonded to the tang. No movement at all, and no indication they even wanted to come apart from each other.

I tapped the handle with a hammer to loosen it on the tang (I didn’t notice any movement) Then put the pommel and nut back on. This time everything tightened up nicely. No more rattles.

Mine had a slight rattle when new. About a half turn on the nut was all it took to get rid of the rattle. As mentioned, leather expands and contracts with moisture. Given the right moisture conditions I would expect that will all rattle at some point.

Ok here goes. I removed the nut. Leaving the pommel on to be the surface to strike i held knife by the handle with 2-3 spacers visible and moving knife in an upward motion while firmly whacking it with a rubber mallet maybe 3-4 times.
The guard was still loose but as eveled said after i replaced and tightened the nut it is perfect.
Took 5 minutes and the knife is 100%.
I did call Buck and talked to Silvia and the leather does dry out and shrink. Oil can be applied and also your hand contact will also over time apply oil which is my preferred way.

Just as an aside been using my hands to rub my natural oils in the leather handle and it is working FD091F03-2E63-4B14-90C7-BBC9E5ECD596.jpegfast. This is after. See my other picture for the before picture. I guess on my other Brahma thread lol
