I had this happen with my CQC-8, i took the clip off and wrapped it in a rag(the prevent scratching, them took some big pliers, and clamped them on the flat part of the clip, the part where the screws are, and them just pushed the clip down while holding the back with the pliers. This will make it where the back isnt even with the handle, so when it is screwd down, more pressure is applied, making it tighter.. Be care not to over tighten it, it doesnt take too much to get it where it need to be, hope this helped!
its fairly common, you must have caught the clip on something and tweaked it.
In stead of bending the area with the screws try to slightly arch the entire clip near the middle of the flat as that is the most likely place that an emerson clip will bend.
