Loose FFG Endura

So I purchased a FFG Endura online about 2 months ago. Right out of the box the lock up wasn't that tight. it's not like the blade isn't resting right against the lock but the entire mechanism moves. It's not an issue of tightening the blade screw. Somehow the blade and lock don't quite "fit" in the handle and there's a little play. I've just been living with it since I don't want to deal with the hastle of mailing it back since it's not all that bad. But, I was just wondering if that's just how they were made or if i should send it back because it's a defect. Any opinions? This is my first Spyderco and I hoped the products were better than this. I feel like i could have spent half as much as the local sporting goods shop for a kershaw and got a better product.

No that is not standard quality. Nothing is perfect of course, even custom knives (that cost upwards of $600-$1,000) have their problems. I can say that if you did send it back they will make it right, but if you don't then they cannot really do anything. I own around 80+ SPyderco knives and they weren't all perfect. The 2 that weren't were sent back, and the concerns I had were accepted and corrected by them.

Having a knife you suspect is not really a hassle, complaints without acting when you have viable recourse is more of a hassle. YMMV. Call them up, send it back, be happy ;)

If you are talking about a slight amount of vertical play that usually is only noticed when you press down on the knife while cutting, that's considered within tolerances for a midlock like the Endura. If it's something else, then you really should send it to Spyderco for evaluation.

That's exactly what I'm seeing. Whenever I press down to cut something it feels like the whole blade moves vertically. I guess that's kind of disappointing for a knife company with such a following. I feel a bit ripped off, I guess. And, a bit insecure with a blade that has a lock that I feel i can't trust. Oh well, you live and learn. Anyone want to buy a FFG endura gray...barely used?

My "ffg" has just about cut anything, works fine. I had a huge vertical blade play one day on it this summer...It turned out that a small wooden chip had somehow slipped in.

A bit of play is normal, slight bit. If it's that bad, I'll take it off of your hands. Email me.
