Loose Guard on Fighting knife?

I noticed My Cammilus fighting that i purchased in the late 90’s has a loose guard. I have two. One has never been used and the loose guard is on the other that i did dig a hole and chop a root for about 30 mins with the tip of the blade. In other words i abused it. Still haven’t been able to get it sharp like it should be? Any suggestions other than dont abuse it again?
