I have a 119 that the guard is now loose on. The knife has seen little use. It feels like the guard on an old Camillus Fighting knife. Can the guard come off? is there a safety hazard here. It's in my wife's car. If no safety issue is present, then no problem here. thanks, guy

I'm sure if you send it back to Buck they would fix you up. :)

oh,I know they would. But if the knife would have to be replaced over a guard thats a little loose as long as its not a safety hazard... I hate to do that. Ive heard that the handle is very hard to remove.

You could also fix it yourself with a good two part epoxy. I did it once with a Puma White Hunter. They are notorious for their loose guards. Walmart sells a clear one that works real well. You may or maynot have a problem with a loose guard. If I had it, it would just drive me nuts knowing it was loose :)

Scott, Thanks, thats a good Idea. When I get thru the house, I'll try that.If it was an EDC,it would probably drive me nuts too. It lives in one of our cars and only gets used rarely. Thanks again, guy

Guy,
Sorry to hear about the loose guard on that 119. It is a problem that we don't see too many of thank goodness but the only remedy we have is to replace the whole knife. If it were mine, I would try the glue method. Wilde Bill once told me you could get super glue in there and it will tighten it up. There is no chance that the guard would fall off by the way. Unless the handle and pommel came off first, it is there to stay.
Hope this helps,

Thanks, Joe,I'll try the glue. Im not going to replace the knife over this.
