loose handle fix?

I have a wood handle BAS I nabbed on a DOTD a few years back. Its the favorite khuk in my collection, and it's starting to have some loosening in the handle. Its mostly in the buttcap, but I can definitely feel the tang giggle in the handle when splitting firewood or during heavier chopping. Is this a sign that the handle is on its way out? The tang is obviously peened over at the buttcap, but I'm not certain that it's enough to go on using it safely. Any hints from Héloise would be greatly appreciated.

There are several fixes for a loose handle.

The most invasive that i know of is to grind off the peened part, pry off the buttcap, and use some liquid super clue to re-melt the laha. It solidifies the natural epoxy when it sets up. Of course then you have to repeen the buttcap.

You could also just carefully boil the handle in water. After a few minutes, you'll probabaly see the laha around the bolster bubble. When this happens, pull it out of the water and use some protective gloves to give the handle a go!od hard push toward the bolster while the laha is soft.
If the buttcap is loose after the fix, give the peened part of the tang a few good taps with a ball peen hammer to tighten it.

Others will be along with their own fixes soon:)
Good luck!

implied but not explicit hint: put the handle in a plastic bag before you boil it. you do not want to get water into the void spaces or soaking into the wood.

Good call;)
As you can tell, I typed out my first response on my phone last night (super "clue"...really Smart Phone, you thought I meant to type CLUE:rolleyes:)
Take as many common sense precautions as you can, of course:)

i initially read that as 'super glue' adaptive response in text messaging has a way to go. you get some very amusing but sometimes fitting 'suggestions'. super clue works too! i'd suggest glue tho. ;)
