Hi folks,

I have an Opinel #10 with a loose lock ring. It works fine but I have to turn it a little more than a quarter of a turn before it fully engages the blade. Far enough that it exposes the pin. Of course it locks and functions fine but I'd rather it engage sooner.

Any ideas?

Thanks

My no.10 was the same, whereas my 6 and 8s engage earlier. After I got used to it I actually liked it. Just felt more secure, because the locking ring would have to screw back further to disengage.

Also congrats on making your first post after being here for 9 years. I feel I should have been more helpful now!

Hi,

I removed my ring (on a N°8) & "squeezed" it in a llittle before putting it back, in my case this made it engage earlier...

Wow, Thanks for the replies, and so quickly.

I will try bending the lock ring in a little tighter. It is only a looks thing for me. If it stopped just before it exposed the pin I'd be happy. I've modded this knife since I got it for $2.00 at a yard sale. I used C-clip pliers and they work great but I must have stretched it out a little.

When I took mine apart only one end of the pin had a head on it, the other end was almost flush with the inner collar and had a divot to swell it out a little.

Chris Larrikin- it is amazing to me that I've been signed up here for that long. I've lurked here the entire time to a greater or lesser extent.

davek14, thanks for the article.

Thanks all.
