Loose lock

I found a post on the Spyderco forums mentioning a stiff lock on a new Caly Jr.
The OP later reported that the lock loosend up with repeated use.

I have the opposite problem: My new Caly Jr. is a bit loose for my taste -- you have to be careful not to get cut when closing it!

This is a pinned knife, and I don't see any way to adjust the lock.

Any suggestions on how to slow this baby down when closing it?

Are you sure you can't just tighten the pivot?

and if what Reeek says doesnt work it is off to spyderco. that should fix the problem

It's more loose than my other Caly Jr., which started out tight but now is just right after a bit of use.

Problem is, there's nothing to tighten, as far as I can see.

Is it the caly 3 or the discontinued calypso jr.?

The caly 3 has an adjustable pivot and the rest of the knife is pinned. I believe the calypso jr is completely pinned.

There is something you can try but it could possibly make the knife too tight and you have to be careful and work slowly. If you are not a tinkerer I would suggest sending it in if it doesn't seem right to you. If you want to try it yourself let me know.

Yeah very lightly peen it a little at a time so it just barely snugs up and takes out some of the play. You want a small socket that just goes over the center pivot 'rod' and rests on the metal washer. Then very lightly tap the socket with a hammer while resting the other side on something hard like a vise. I have heard of just tapping the pivot rod but this looks like it would take a lot more force because the rod is a fixed length and you would have to hit it enough to deform the end and hopefully push the washer in some.

You can loosen a pinned blade by pulling the open blade to the side. It acts as a lever that pushes the handle slabs apart.

There is always the small chance of screwing something up when you do things yourself. But if you are careful and take your time you shouldn't have a problem. If you don't feel comfortable send it in.

It's the Caly Jr. (C52PKE) and is completely pinned.

My first Caly Jr., the one that's tighter, feels perfect. These are terrific blades.
I'll send the second one in to see what Spyderco can do.

Many thanks for your suggestions.
