Loose pivot on a Stainless Endura II

A while back I got a stainless Endura II from a member here. While I really like this one, there's a noticeable bit of play both up & down and side-to-side when open; and if you hold the pivot area when closed, you can hear the blade hit the scales when you shake the knife gently.

Is there any way for me to fix this? This E2 was pretty much NIB when I got it, and outside of one camping trip, it's only opened letters. It's been loose like this since I got it.

If there isn't a fix for this, then what the opinion here: warranty issue? Send it back and see if somebody at Golden can tighten it up?

Best and most honest solution would have been to undo the deal, but am guessing it's too late for that. Side to side play when closed is a non-issue, IMHO, since many pinned Spydercos have it. Same with slight vertical play when opened, especially the type that is normally only noticed when you put pressure on the blade while making a cut. It's fairly common on midlocks. Side to side play when opened would be an issue on a new knife. Not sure whether they'd consider it one on a knife that's at least six years old, especially one that was purchased second hand. AFAIK, Spyderco does not tighten pinned knives and, if I'm correct about that, then repair is not an option, either under warranty or on your dime. If they consider it a warranty issue, they'd replace it or give you a credit usable at SFO. Given that it's an older model and no longer made, and that the E4 SS was more expensive from the time it was introduced, probably the later. If they consider it within tolerances, or something that may have resulted from a previous owner's actions, then not.

Thanks for the info. I originally kept this one because I didn't have a stainless Endura, and I wanted an example from each generation. This was before I knew about how Spyderco is constantly improving their various models, and each generation can have variations as well.

Does anyone know if the newer-production stainless Enduras are 'less loose' than the older ones? (Tighter tolerances, etc.) I may just retire this one; it may just become a permanent letter opener on my desk. I might give Spyderco a call and see what they say. My biggest concern is that the looseness will worsen with hard use, and eventually really damage the knife.

Contact spyderco. They may fix it for you, either under warranty or for a fee. If it is loose and you cannot see the pivot pin, it could have been that way from day 1 and Spyderco may fix it under warranty. If it is loose and you can see the pivot pin, it probably got that way due to use. If you are handy, you may be able to tighten it yourself with a hammer and the anvil on a vise.
