One of my beautiful BDC models has a very loose scabbard. It literally rattles, always. If turned upside down, the knive WILL fall out. None of my other blades are like this.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Andy

There are several things you CAN do like soaking the scabbard or adjusting the stitching. However, the easiest thing that I have found to fix this problem is to glue leather shims in at the mouth of the scabbard. It should keep the blade stuck fast.

im having the same problems on a few of my blades as well...
my movie model and 14" bdc rattle and will fall out if turned upside down :(
if you dont have any leather around you can do what i did... i cut out pieces from old leather shoes and used that as shims... works great :p

Loose scabbards never bother me. For me nothing is worse than going down the trail and needing to cut something and being unable to draw it and replace it in the scabbard quickly.

You have three options.

1. Make the khukuri grow bigger.
2. Soak the scabbard in warm water, wrap tightly (but not *too* tightly) with surgical tubing, and allow to dry.
3. Insert a shim.

I've had no luck with #1. #2 and #3 both work fine, but #3 is the easiest by far. I'd recommend trying that first.

99% of the time I prefer a scabbard to grip a khukuri tightly enough that I can't shake it out upside-down. It's simply a safety issue for me. Others do differently and are fine with it.

Pls forgive my ignorance, how exactly you insert & stick the leather shim? Or once the shim is in place at the scabbard's mouth, does the rest of the blade stop rattling?

well it depends on the scabbard :D
if possible you can do what i did... i inserted a piece of leather directly into the scabbard and between where the karda/chakma and knife enters. i folded the flap over and into that space and it works fine without glue  not a super nice fix but its not ugly either... you barely even notice it and nobody is going to look into the sheath anyway.

if thats not an option... you can do what i did with another sheath
i just roughed up the piece of shoe leather i had with a scotch brite pad on one side and used gorilla glue to keep it in place inside the opening.

it wont rattle unless you shake it vigorously :)
how much can you ask for with some shoe leather and glue

im sure others will chime in with what they do
