Hi there
I just received my first HI khuk an 18" WWII villager by dil kami which i picked up on this forum ,
Thanks Yangdu for such great service and thanks westfork for donating the knives to help the kamis...

This blade is beautiful with a great fit and is very sharp the only problem is the sheath is very loose with no retention at all
what should i do guys ? any recommendations as i am concerned with the safety aspect

Thanks guys

Probably the easiest fix is to glue a strip of leather or felt inside the throat of the scabbard.

I agree with Karda, that is probably the easiest way to fix a loose sheath. Another option is to soak leather or some kind of cordage in water, wrap it around the mouth of the sheath above where the frog goes. If done correctly as the leather/cordage dries it should tighten up the sheath. You must get a tight fit when the leather/cordage is wet for this to work. Thats why a leather of felt shim is easier to do. The cord wrapped sheath can look really good when done properly.

Thanks Karda and wildmanh
I tried a leather shim in the throat of the sheath and after experimenting with the the amount of layers it is
Now perfect
Cheers

I'm gald it worked out for you. Thanks for the update. Got pics of the knife?

I use Weldwood Contact adhesive. Any high strengh water proof or at least water resistant adhesive should work. Super glue is good too.

I recently completed a "slim down" of my WWII's sheath (removing the karda/chakma and the brass tip), and discovered that the Turk's Head knots I put near the mouth of the sheath (to engage the frog) and to cover the line where my Plasti-dip end treatment ended really tightened up the retention. Mine was snug to begin with, now that big blade isn't going anywhere.

Welcome to the forum!

I'd love to see what you did with the knotwork.
