Loosen stiff blades?

The thread about "blade play" just got me thinking about the opposite problem - when the liners/bolsters are too tight on the blade, making it difficult to open. The problem is that the liners and bolsters have been bent slightly and peened from too much dropping over the years. Is there an easy fix for this? (This is NOT a problem of the backspring being too strong) I've thought about working some abrasive compound (Brasso or something) into the joint and working it open and closed, but I'm worried about wearing down the backspring and not being able to clean it out when I'm done. Any suggestions?

DON'T use any abrasive in the pivot area. You will never get it all out.
Use a small file to remove any burrs, and oil the pivot.

Is it a slipjoint? I would advise against using abrasives in the pivot aswell because once it's in you'll have a extremely gritty opening action which would make it worse, try cleaning out the pivot with compressed air then oiling it.
