Hi, I finally got around to disasembling my Lahar to find out why it wasn't opening so smoothly. Pivot and associated partes were dirty, no surprise. I cleaned it thoroughly, reassembled and tightened pivot (used small dab of lock-tite on threads) just until there was no blade play. Now my question is what can I use to lubricate the pivot to make it a smoother flipper ala JYDII? I may try some silicone spray but wanted to hear what others suggest. ANy comments are appreciated.
thanks,
kevin

When I disassembled mine I polished the PB wahsers and hit it with Tuf Glide. WHen I reassembled it I fiddles with the pivot and handle screws until I got it to the point where it was actually faster tham by JYD w/ no blade play. As with most flipper knives there is a sweet spot in there where it performs at top speed. Just a hair adjustment in any direction and it all goes to pot.

My suggestion to you is the same my wife has given me so many times, just keep fumbling around you'll find it eventually.:D

+1 on the Tuf-Glide. That stuff works wonders, and does a good job of keeping dirt away from those parts in the future.

Cheers,
Jon

LOL, just noticed that part of your response Spiral. I'm afraid it seems like our wives may have been talking to each other. I keep hearing the same thing.;)

i'll certainly look into tuff glide, until i find that i'm going to give mineral oil a shot.

Militec-1 is a very good choice, after some experimentation it's now what I use on my JYD2 and ENER-G2. Disassemble the knife making sure it's clean, put a tiny bit of Militec on all bearing/moving surfaces, heat with a hair dryer until warm but not too hot to touch, wipe off the excess and reassemble. Flipping action should be very smooth, and accumulation of dirt/lint minimized.

Trying to think of the thinnest lube i had on hand before I get a chance to get something synthetic; I put 2 drops of motorcycle fork oil on the pivot. It's very fast right now. I am sure it's going to attract dirt like crazy but it will have to do until then. Thanks for all the input.

That's one thing about Tuf-Glide...it is super-thin...
