Loosening backsprings...

Hi guys,
here to ask for your help once more.
So recently I have bought and started carrying a Buck Canoe, and I'm sort of experimenting the pattern.
The only problem I have is that the backsprings are really hard (especially on the pen blade, which is almost a nailbreaker). Coming from a world of friction folders, I prefer very mild pulls, and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to loosen them a bit.
Thanks for your suggestions.

I don't know if there's an easy & reliable way to ease the pull for the pen blade, unless a lot of the friction is due to a dirty/gritty pivot, in which case cleaning it thoroughly might help. If your knife is new (relatively), I'd probably get in touch with Buck first, to see if there's something they can do. I'm assuming this Buck is a new, 2-spring design (separate spring for each blade)? If so, they might be able to adjust the pull for the pen blade, without adversely affecting the pull for the spear (main) blade. Most older canoe patterns were 2 blades sharing one spring. I'd think it'd be impossible to 'fix' the pull for only one blade, in that config.

Buck generally has a very good (or excellent) reputation for fixing issues like this, if they have the parts to do it.

(I'm actually surprised to hear about a stiff pull on any of the new Buck traditionals; all I've heard or seen suggests their newer knives have softish/weak springs. Looks like this one's an exception.)

Unless the pivot is binding, the only solution is to reduce the thickness of the backspring.

Thanks for your feedbacks.
david, the knife in question is the one you're thinking of. It's new, with separate spring for each blade. The spear point is mild enough actually, but the pen is pretty tough. Unfortunately, as good as Buck's service can be, living so far makes it uncomfy for me to send the knife back and so on. Anyway, I might give it a try and email them, and see what they're going to answer.

You might also ask in the Buck sub-forum here. Joe Houser (of Buck Knives) is the mod in that forum. He's always helpful, and has bent over backwards many a time, to help out in situations like this.
