Loosening up a wire jack.

I got an old Schrade wire jack off the Bay a few weeks back, and finally got around to peining the pivot back tight.

Problem is, I went one or two taps too hard. It's now a true nailbreaker (shakes head while looking at his right thumb) and has no snap. Tight laterally, but the rifle-fire snap is gone. I'm too used to bolstered pivots, and didn't think that the pivot is exposed. :o

Any way to loosen this back up? I can re-pein it (using a lighter hammer) if the loosening takes it too far.

I don't have a wire jack, so I really don't know what to say. Instinct tells me that you might use a superlube like graphite and wear it in by repeated opening and closing. Otherwise you have to figure out how to respread the joint using a wedge of some sort. Best I can think of short of having it repinned. Sorry. Maybe Orvet or someone else has a better suggestion, or you could take the question to the maker/embellisher forum.

Making sure I have it right- I place the kick on the anvil and tap high up on the ricasso? Something like if I were trying to flip the knife over?
