I bought a new (open box) Cutjack from a private individual online and can't seem to get it to loosen up. More often than not it takes a slight wrist click to get it to open. I attempted to loosen the pivot, it turned slightly but stopped - I believe they're permanently loc-tited. I think it's probably at the limit anyway in terms of starting to introduce blade play.

If I depress the liner lock the blade is lose enough to free-swing, so I think this is an issue w/the detent/lock tension. If that's the case, anything I can do to loosen this up a bit?

Thanks in advance!

Try oiling it first. Check that the detent ball isn’t missing too. If it’s still in place and the oil doesn’t help you can take the knife apart a bend back the lock but you risk getting lock rock upon reassembly.
My cut jack has a fair bit of flex, enough that as a lefty I don’t often carry it because I tend to grip my knives tight and opening left handed with a tight grip bends the frame enough to effect the opening. If I’m not conscious of how I’m holding it, it’s likely to open only half way. Right handed it doesn’t seem to be of any concern.

Yes if it isn't a Titanium liner it can take just a breath on the liner past where it clears the blade to close to effect a change. I've been lucky with my knives and I have way under done it and usually get it n the first try..

I suppose if you over do it you can bend it back. This would require taking the blade out of the frame. Some knives are just made to such sloppy tolerances it takes wrist even with a fair amount of blade play.

I'm not saying anything against the Cutjack, I've never handled one, I'm just saying . . . even some of my M390 / special addition wowie zowie knives suck action wise.

Here is one example : I have one, that is as described above (wowie zowie) that has poor action because it is possible to just press the scales together and effectively apply a "brake" to the blade swinging. Stop pressing the scales together and the blade drops.

Isn't that "special". :(
