I bought lovey a nice little A.G. Russell Bird and Trout knife. It has an ATS 34 blade that is about 3". I love the knife and the extremely well thought out sheath. Set down this morning to turn it into a razor. THREE HOURS later with the Lansky (most of that with coarse diamond) it's now finally reprofiled and very very sharp. I take most knives to 17 degrees and then put a final finish on the blades at 20 degrees, a combination that has worked well for me on many others. The factory grind on the BT was very steep and it was not all that sharp out of the box. That ATS 34 is apparently some darned tough stuff and I had to remove quite a lot of it to accomplish the mission. I hope she appreciates it when she uses it the first time. This is the first ATS 34 blade in our house, I hope the time it took to get it sharp means it will hold that edge for a similarly long time. This is by far the longest it has ever taken me to get a knife really sharp with the Lansky.
