Barnes & Noble have this extended edition set for $79.78 + shipping. I was wondering if this was worth it, given that my wife bought the regular editions of each film as they came out. What say all?

Much better versions. Explain alot more. Like all the elven gifts. Also more about gollum. After seeing the extended versions I wondered why release the short ones?

YES! YES! YES!

OK, now that I've proven my geekhood, I'll just reiterate and once again say YES! If you liked the theater versions or are a fan of the books you must get the extended editions. The extras are actually interesting and the added scenes should never have been cut in the first place. It's like watching a new movie, particularly with The Two Towers. Go, buy them now!

absolutely worth it! almost half an hour of movie added for each of the 3 episodes, amazing DTS-ES, overdose of bonus, ....
these DVDs are a reference-quality home theater experience! :)

If you're like me, if you grew up reading the books and know the backstories inside and out, if you read the Appendices to the books, the Hobbit and the Silmarillion, and feel like you would not be too shabby as a historian in the world of Middle Earth, then I say, yeah, buy the extended editions. If you left the theater with a look of confusion on your face, buy the extended editions. If it is a purchase just to add to your DVD collection, don't buy them. IMO, they were much better than the theatre versions. More material, more character development, and my girl friend, who at the time had never read any of the books, said that the EE of all three had better explained what was going on. BTW, you get to see the battles in depth in the EE of ROTK, battles that would make Conan cry :D.

The extended version of LOTR where worth every penny I paid for them.
First thing I did when I got them was to sit down and watch the whole thing on our 120" front screen projection system :eek: What an experience!!!

In my opinion the only excuse you have if you don't buy them is either your Broke and have no money or your only half human :D:D (in other words buy them)

Definitely worth buying, I bought each extended version as they came out. It's a shame they ever published the shorter versions. There are some new scenes like The Funeral of Theodred in Two Towers and The Voice of Saruman (in which he dies) in ROTK.

Andrew.

Sounds like a great price to me, since I paid about $30 for each of the extended versions for mine.

This trilogy is the most prized in my DVD collection....
