It is a well known fact that Browning does not make their knives, but rather they have knife manufacturers build knives for them. In the case of the X3, TOPS makes these and puts the Browning name on it. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't really consider it a ripoff if the original company is the one that is making it for Browning.

Really nice design. I read some impressions of them by folks at the balisong forum, and saw Fred Perrin flipping one in a video linked on the balisong forum...

Are they of sandwich or channel cut construction? They were supposed to be available several months ago, and the current projected date of release is May 1. They should sell extremely well, considering the very reasonable price, and the fact that they have a good pedigree, assuring quality. Spyderco has a couple more versions coming out soon, including a Szabofly.

Dan :)

One thing I've never understood is why a maker would put a 4" blade inside a 6" handle? Why not a 5 1/2" blade or a 4 1/2" handle? I haven't (obviously) seen this one firsthand, so there might be something about the design that makes this necessary.

for once....the hole is not in the blade....sheesh....

Brian - I think spyderco wants the hole at the handle base to be "open"...

Balisongs are one of the items on California's long list of banned impliments. I think it is legal to own one as long as it is in your house, or on your property. Can't carry in public, and definately can't sell or transfer to another.

Were it not for some substantial efforts by a few people, it is likely that any one-handed opening folding knife would also be included in that list--without the existing explicit exemption for knives with detents that are manually opened by applying pressure to a thumbstud on the blade (or similar) such knives would be included. Occasionally in court proceedings, judges and prosecutors still need to be reminded of this exemption.

If paypal is California based, their restrictions could reflect their own beliefs or a fear of some sort of legal action, as there are plenty of anti-knife zealots around that will sue at the drop of a hat whether there is any merit to the case or not.

Actually, I think the shape of the handles is sort wierd-looking, but I think lots of thier stuff is wierd-looking. But if it works well and distinguishes the product from the competition, great.
