Lost a bolt

So I got out of work at 10am today and decided to do some fishing on this gorgeous day. I already bought the shiners and swung back home to check the mail for my micarta scales. I was in a rush and also excited for my new scales so I decided to change them out on a dock. One of the bolts fell between the dock and before I rip up the boards I was wondering if anyone knew the size of bolt I need for a replacement.

On a side note, my scales have a lot of dust rubbing off, is that normal?

Here is some info from the FAQ... good luck .. Might as well get a set of stainless nuts and bolts too

The FAQ said:
o Screws + Nuts == Fasteners

Extremely popular question... From Toooj '''The Fasteners for the BK-2, 3, 7, 77, 9 are Socket Head Cap screws #10-24 x 5/8" L. The BK-11 Screws are #6-32 x 5/8" (Not positive on the length) Socket head Cap screws. You should be able to go to any hardware store and buy these'''

From OREGON FAL'ER '''Screw sizes are 10/32 0r 10/24 x 5/8 for the big beckers and 8/32 x 1/2 for the shorts. '''

DerekH adds '''but a Torx 20 works really well'''

Forgot to add that I ended up hand washing my micarta scales in soap and water a couple times to get the dust off..

Thanks for the info! And yeah I'm still at the lake so I would rather wash it off in clean water, I rubbed it with my bandana but I know that the stuff micarta is made out of is pretty dangerous to breathe in so I wasn't sure if this was normal. An if I get the stainless steel bolts and screw I mine as well strip the blade as well now

swirl it around in the lake a few times.. the fish will line up to get on your stringer :)

Strip it, micarta, stainless hardware... just need some liners and you are set. Have fun, I know I wish I was a t a lake right now..

My suggestion would be to just ditch the middle screw till you get some stainless. I know quite a few folks will just ditch the center screw completely. I really don't think it will make THAT much difference. I think it was Fal'er who makes 2 hole Micarta when he does make it. I wouldn't swear to that though. I thought that was what I saw when I saw his work.

As stated all you need are some 10-24 x 5/8" socket head screws and then just get some 10-24 hex nuts to match and you're set. Go all stainless. It's about a $2 investment at best at any mom and pop hardware store I've been to in the area. Just bought some stainless hardware last week for my new BK10.

Well I haven't been camping since I got my BK2, just a lot day hikes and fishing. I've used my Mora way more than the BK2. So I decided to put my BK2 to the test and pry up the board to get the bolt.

The BK2 is a tank and ripped up the board so I could get to the bolt. I knocked the board back in so I wasn't destroying anything. First real test with the BK2 and the amount of pressure I used to pry the board up you'd think I was using a crowbar. It is insane how much of a tank this knife is.

But this whole ordeal got me to thinking about stripping the blade and getting stainless steel screws/bolts. Also I plan on adding a liner, the Micarta scales were well worth the money. At first I was kind of hesitant to invest the money because Grivory is a really strong material and Micarta strength wise isn't much of an upgrade. I have to say though, the look and feel of the Micarta is awesome. I'll post some pictures of the knife and fish in a little bit. Caught a couple of 14 inch bass which I kept, and a bunch of little ones which I threw back. Right before I left a Catfish ripped my last shiner off the hook so I was kind of disappointed that I didn't have any lures with me to toss back in where the catfish was.

Thanks again for the help/advice!

14 incher, caught another one a little bigger than that. My mom's boyfriend's mother is visiting from Portugal so I brought them over and let her clean them up since she's use to killing and butchering her own meal I figured it'd be nice rather than here where everything is done for you.

Probably going to strip the black, get some stainless steel screws. Throw in a liner to match a different color paracord lanyard. I'm not sure what color yet but I'd like to do something that pops.
