Well folks, I have commited a body to the deep. Off to Davey Jones' locker is my trusty Myerchin L377P LightKnife. I have had this knife in my rigging kit for over 10 years, and on a race this past sunday it slipped out of my pocket, bounced off the rail of the boat and went kerplunk into the river. This knife has been with me travelling all over for races, up dozens of masts, tripped countless shackels, spliced halyards and sheets.
I know it doesn't quite have the class as, say, the Buck 315 Yachtsman, with its Zytel handle and LED light in the clip, but it was my trusty rigging knife! I know the discussion has been had on here (started by me) about what 'traditional' marling spike knife is good, and I may get a Buck, but part of me wants to get another one just like it. Kinda like owning only Black Lab dogs, each one is different, but the new puppy reminds you of the past one.
I hope it doesn't just tumble with the ebb and flow for eternity, but finds a new home on a sunken boat.
I know losing a knife is a real bummer, because it is more than likely your favorite user. I can only be happy that this one was lost during its intended course for life and not to theft, carelessness, or other means. What knife have you lost, and was it in a noble way?
