Had a minor emergency. Had to clear out a walk-in closet on Friday so a contractor could gain access. In clearing the closet I found an OIF etched Kabar still in packaging an Army SGM buddy gave me in Iraq in 2005. I thought I had left it in Baghdad. I also found an A.G. Russell AGSA-2 mariner's rigger knife in natural bone and in the original that belonged to my father in-law. It was made in Japan. I thought that AG. Russell knife was long lost. Had wanted to give it to my son but thought I lost it.

Can't find much info on the rigging knife. Can anyone shed any light on that A.G. Russell? I appears unused and unsharpened.

Blimey, I'm going to go and clear out MY closet! :D Nice surprise :)

Third knife "find" since summer of 2013. Need to find some info on the A.G. Russell.

Pictures would be nice. He commissioned more than one through the years.

I think I used to see those rigging knives in A.G.'s catalogs in the '90s, and maybe up into early- or mid-2000s. I'd sort of ogled them for a while, and remember they were in AUS-8 stainless. At one time or another, I think he offered those in black and coral (red) 'Rucarta' as well.

Found an older thread asking about some of A.G.'s knives, specifically including a question about that 'sailor's knife'. Apparently at that time, I was able to dig up one of my older catalogs, and found the info as quoted from post #5 in that thread, linked below:

I just came across a few of my old A.G. Russell catalogs, dating back to '95 - '97 time frame. Found a listing for the A.G. Russell 'Sailor's Knife' in black Rucarta, coral (red) rucarta, and smooth bone handles. Fully serrated stainless blade with oval hole for easy opening. Doesn't specify steel type (although I'm pretty sure it was specified as AUS-8 in Russell's later catalogs). Model numbers were as follows:

AGSA-1 (Coral Rucarta)
AGSA-2 (Natural Bone)
AGSA-3 (Black Rucarta)

All three were priced at $79.00 apiece in that catalog. I think, in more recent years, when Russell decided to sell remaining inventory of these, the price came down a bit to somewhere in the $60 - $70 range.

I also found a 'Spring 1997' Russell catalog with a scrimshawed (etched w/a whale design), bone handle version of same knife, model AGSA-2W. It does list the blade steel as '8A' at 57 - 59 RC. It was priced at $99.00 in that catalog.

I probably still have those catalogs, but I've moved since that posting, and I'm sure they'd likely still be buried in one of the countless boxes that haven't been unpacked since.

It's always like a birthday or Christmas when you find a knife you had forgotten about or lost. In your case, it's even more special due to the events surrounding the knives themselves.

Congrats on finding your lost treasure!

Now that's a "feel good" tale.
I would have been happier than a politicians accountant if I found that swag of knives .
Sorry i have no info.
Hope the work went well .:D

Either my camera card or the card reader is bad. I'll take a pic when I find out which and replace it.

I was just about to say have another poke around in that closet and see if you can find a camera! ;)
