After moving to MI I thought I had lost my first and favorite HI khukuri: a really roughly made 15" village model. Yesterday I was organizing my knifemaking supplies and remembered I have this Craftsman tool box combo. I use the upper part with all the little drawers all the time, but never use the lower part. I pulled it out, emptied the two big drawers, and voila! There was my villager! I was so happy! Also, making me almost as happy, we had guests recently and had to use the leaf for our kitchen table. Behind it was my bicycle pump (and not just any pump: a classic Italian Silca that is the envy of every bike dork I know) that I was certain had fallen off the moving truck! Thank God for guests!

Drop in and say hello every now and then. Missed hearing from you the last few months, though I'd see you on the other forums.

See second line under Uncle Bills signature. But come to think of it, maybe we should draft Blues and Doc to do another FAQ, and maybe call it REALLY KHUKU FAQS.

:
It's good to see you back!!!!
You left us as just plain Steve and now have come back as Doc Steve!!!!
Congrats on passing the boards and getting the new shingle!!!!
I know you worked hard for it and still kept your love of sharp objects active.
Another proof that working and playing with knives is a relaxing pass time.

JUmp right in where you left, there are some new items, but not enough to be intimidating and you will be up to speed before you know it.

And Doc I have a question, you can answer in e-mail if it isn't proper to respond here.
Your answer will help me to make a large decision!!!!
Can someone with a fused spine from L-1 to L-5 still be manipulated without any harm?
And what about the SI joint?
Would/could manipulation help inflamation there?
Many Thanks Doc Steve!!!!

Yvsa, you may want to email me, but....
First of all, legal disclaimer. Talk to a doctor who can actually see you...my advice does not imply acceptance of you as a patient. That said:

There is a difference between "manipulation" and a chiropractic adjustment. Manipulation is anything done to move segments in the spine. It can be done by MD's, DO's, DC's, PT's, kung fu instructors and blind barbers. Adjustments, if applied by a skillful chiropractor, are safer because they are specific.

That said, when you have a spinal fusion the segments above and below tend to become hypermobile, to make up for the immobility at the fused segment. In your case, a huge part of your spine is fused, and that is a big problem. Your sacroiliac joints are bearing way too much of the weight. Will chiropractic care help? Absolutely. There is a limitation of matter, though. You are dealing with drastically altered biomechanics, so you will have to give care a lot of time and your results will be somewhat limited. It's worth a try. You may want to look for a chiropractor that specializes in a couple different techniques, as they may be more conducive to working with your problem. If you'd like to email me, I will be glad to give you some more info, and I may even know someone near you...one never knows!
