I was wanting to post this last week but didn't get it finished untill the day before I left for the Blade West Show. Its one of the smaller hawks I've made lately. Believe the cutting edge is 3" and overall the head is 8". It was forged out of 7/8" square 1080. The haft on this one is dyed curley maple with a couple turks heads. This one and the other two I took with me have new homes now. I feel bad leaving them down there with all that smog....... I'll just have to live with it.......

Ray, I've got a few hawks here that love SMOG, so if you have any smog breatheing buyers and don't want to send those clean air hawks to them, let me know. :D

Nice hawk, smog or not

Bill

man when you said Lost Hawk

I thought someone was picking over your shop when you weren't looking and you were going to say
he I caught that little so and so and and.... Ray was that the last hawk you made :D
BTW very nice job I like it..muchO

That is a beautiful hawk, i really like the smaller, lighter ones. How did you blacken the steel on this one?

Terry, If I remember correctly I think I etched it a couple time first, cold blued it and then soaked it in bleach. I may have blued it again after the bleach treatment. I finished it off with paste wax. I very seldom do the samething twice and as tired as I am from the drive I'm lucky I found my way home.

Bill, Its been awhile since I've driven to LA but I can't remember the smog being as bad as it was. It was so bad you'd never know there were mountains around. I did find the cheeper gas stations on the way home.

Wow! that is a great hawk!
Simple, clean, elegant...you really don't expect those words to go with a spiked tomahawk but they definetly go with this one!!

You drove down to L.A.? Which route...if you took 101 I'm gonna be p.o.ed. You went right by me! I'd have bought you a meal AND showed you where to get the cheapest gas! :) Just for a glimpse of (and maybe a chance at) one of your hawks.
Next time you head south email me. I'm serious.
p.s. I'm in smog free northern CA! :D

Bruce, Sleep is something I'm not very good at. I couldn't imagine what I'd be able to do if I was able to get 8 hours once in awhile. I'm lucky to get 6.

Tom, I went I-5 although 101 is very beautiful but it just takes to much time if your in a hurry. I was kind of expecting to see you at the BAKCA Show. I plan on doing it again next year and hope to have some hawks with me then.

Raymond that's just clean as a whistle! There's no smog here in Iowa, feel free to send any of your smog-hating hawks out here for safe keeping and a nice healthy lifestyle. :D We have blues, whiskey and everything.

I've been trying to get to a west coast show but it's just not working out...yet. :grumpy:
But it's great to have you guys show us what you took to them tho :D

If you ever decide to take the longer, much more scenic and peaceful route (101) let me know. :)

Tom, I've taken 101 and 1 a few different times years ago and it is one pretty route. Did it once when I drove trucks for a short period of time. I remember a number of 15 mile an hour turns and seems like there may have been a few even slower than that. Where abouts do you live?

Raymond,
I live about 20 miles south of Eureka in a small town called Fortuna.
101 is a lot faster than 1. All the tourists take 1 because it is so senic. 101 has a few redwood groves to go trough then it is pretty quick.
But, you're right if you have to really move I5 is the way to go.

Ray,

I'll echo Shappa's comments. That hawk has a beautiful transition from the flat blade back to the neck of the spike. Really nice! I also really like the Turk's Heads. Simple but elegant. :D
