Lost my favorite blade!! What to buy to replace it?

Hi everyone,

I've been away for a while.

I lost (among other things) my favorite blade when the tailgate popped open on my truck and I lost my bag of goodies that I always keep. A very, very tough lesson (and costly!). Lots of my favorite tools and gear that I have collected for years were in there, and someone had picked them up off the road in less than 5 minutes!!!

Damn.

It was a Western L66

I also lost an Estwing leather handled hatchet which I liked but was much less attached to.

I'm back here because you folks originally ID'd it for me when I inhereted it 3 years ago.

I especially like the look and feel of the stacked leather handle, and the size and weight was just right...in short, it was my favorite.

Is $50-ish unreasonable? It won't see serious heavy use (barring real emergencies), and I always keep all my tools and knives cleaned and oiled.

Thanks everyone

Don't know if you've already looked, but there are a small handful of these same knives up for auction on the 'bay right now (search for 'Western L66 knife'). If you're really fond of that knife, might be something to take a look at.

Yes, I checked ebay, thanks!

I guess that the Western was my favorite blade, 1/2 for the knife itself, and 1/2 because I inhereted it.

Since I can't replace the 2nd half, I am exploring other options.

Still, I'd be happy to have another L66 if that's what I end up with, and it does look like I can get one under budget at any given time. Maybe I wouldn't mind a safer (more sturdy) sheath that still looks right next to the stacked leather handle.
