Lost my favorite blade. What to get?

I had a Spyderco Manix 2 Tactical with the black on black S30V steel. I had it for 2 yrs carried everyday and only had to sharpen it once. Used it a lot. It still looked almost new. Blade held up well as far as the coating goes.

We'll I lost it and have been smothering for two weeks trying to find it. Seems it's gone for good.

What should I get to replace it? I loved this knife. Should I get one just like it? Or is there a better Manix 2 to get now?

I've seen where they now have BD-1 steel. Is this as good as S30V?

I've seen the new S110V steel. It only comes in the lightweight version though. Is this as good as the Tactical version with G-10 scales and blade coating the tactical has?

Is the S30V steel OK to go without the DLC coating I had last time. I can save $30 by just getting the same knife without the coating, but would that be a bad idea?

A lot of questions I know please help.

If you loved that knife; go with it again. S30V shouldn't have issues with corrosion so going with a satin blade won't be an issue as long as you like the look of the satin.

If you liked it go with it again, if you'd like some advice on another blade that might fill the void than I think you could give the Paramilitary 2 a shot.

I love my LW S110V version. But if you loved the Manix 2 you probably want to get another. There are some that might be as usable for you, but it would just be shooting from the hip on my part to try to suggest any. But having said that, the Manix 2 is tough to beat.

What was more of an undecided was the different blade steels. I liked the S30V but if the BD1 or the S110V is any better than I may choose them.

Although the S110V only comes in the lightweight style which I don't know if I like that. How sturdy is the lightweight compared to the fully lined G10 handles?

Are there any discount codes for BladeHQ ? I think I'm going to go with the G-10 S30V steel satin instead of the tactical.

It's $27 cheaper. It looks cooler but I don't know if the rust prevention is any better than it would be without and is worth
$27 for basically looks.

What do,you guys think?

I always buy a backup for my fav EDCs. Sometimes 2 or 3. ;)

S30V is stainless. Basic maintenance is all that is required. Don't put it away wet. Wipe-Dry-Oil at the end of a day's use is all it takes.

Check around. You'll probably find both cheaper at other BF-supporting dealers. Here's just 2 ...

~ NationalKnives has the Manix2 S30V G10 $80

I have had a few different Paramilitary 2 knives over the years and they are amazing.
The coyote finish is my personal favorite, but you really can't go wrong with any selection from spyderco.
That is my personal opinion

I prefer the paramilitary over the Manix but that's just me. If you want another manix then I'd go for the g10/s30v. BD1 is not on par with s30v when it comes to edge retention. The lightweight in s110v is a good deal but it does not have the same heavy duty feel of the regular g10 manix. FWIW, you can now get a regular production PM2 in s110v...just sayin. ;)

I carry a Manix 2 for work everyday and the only knife I'm considering to give it some days off are a PM2. Sounds like you love your Manix though and bang for buck it's tough to beat.

If you don't mind the light weight (and all the characteristics that go along with it; search the subforum for folks opinions) of the LW Manix S110v and do not need the extra robustness of your old G10 version, I say give the S110v a shot. Its a brilliant piece, excellent value for money and capable of handling what 98% of people are going to throw at it IMO. Para 2 is another excellent choice, now also coming available in S110v. Also have to mention the Military and Endura if you'd consider a larger option. All excellent choices.

Just for a slight difference, I will suggest you fondle a Manix 2 XL if you can.
I had an S30V hollow ground Manix 2, excellent knife, gifted it to my bro when I got the Cruwear version.
I've handled and sharpened a BD1 LW. Great knife but not for me, feels nothing like the utterly rugged feel of the standard version.

But my favorite Manix is the XL, I carry it far more often. Some feel it's too wide, takes up too much pocket space. Fair enough, it is large. But I find it easily carried, don't notice any difference to carrying the standard Manix 2. It's the same weight.
It's one of only 2 Spyderco's I have that wear a deep carry clip. It needs it IMO. Also the clip you see on it is great for gripping with my fingers to make closing the XL one handed easy.

We'll I already placed the order Sunday for the Manix 2 G-10 S30V satin blade. It's also made me catch the Spyderco bug again. Not wanting to be without my favorite EDC I'm going to get a backup.

I carry two knives always anyway. One as more of an everyday user and one as more of a defensive knife if I need one. Something always sharp. That's the role of the manix 2. I usually back up with a case 3 blade, Kershaw scallion, or Leek.

I'm thinking about also not just getting a backup defensive blade but better everyday use knives with better steel.

Such as a delica with vg-10.

If you are interested in a backup defensive blade that is still highly functional, might I suggest the Lil Matriarch? It is made on the Delica format and while designed as a SD tool, I find the blade shape amazingly useful for my normal everyday cutting tasks. FWIW, I carry the pe version from BBS.

We'll got my Manix 2 G-10 with satin S30V blade in today. Forgot how stiff they are at first. It was great to actually have a nice knife with some weight back in my hand. The leek was getting old.

Second first impressions:

It was sharp as they usually are but I hit it on a belt strop I made about 20 passes on each side and now it just falls threw paper. Extremely sharp now. Oiled it up a little also. Going to have to work that action to get it to loosen up fasten but no big deal. I know how it will be in a short time.

Now I'm going to buy either a second one, maybe a lightweight s30v, or a para2 s30v as a backup or to change out with every now and then.

If you are going to get a lightweight I would suggest trying the S110V version of the Manix 2. There is a reason the new S110V PM2s are impossible to find even though you hear most don't like the handle color. The steel is great.
