Today while hiking/climbing my BM Rift found it's way out of my pocket. (I always heard not to trust the arrow pocket clip). I have zero chance of finding it. It was my infantry school graduation gift to myself so I'm pretty sick over it. It's been in my pocket every day for two years now.

Anyone lost a knife that meant a lot to them and wanna share the story to help cheer me up? Or at least we can commiserate together.

Thanks. (and I'll add pictures later)

The only knife i've lost worth mentioning is an old Buck knife I had....bought it from a hardware store a long time ago. Used it for everything (not just cutting)...Man, I loved that knife.

In 1986 I lost a Schrade LB7 that I was using to cut twine off round bales. I was so broke at the time it took me about 3 months until I could get another work knife. I went with an Old Timer 7OT that I still have. that was my main knife for about 10 years and it is still a great knife. Now I just have a few hundred to choose from.

Stephen, I had always been really careful with my knives, and never lost a single one, until a couple months ago when I lost my Al Mar Sere 2000, one of my favorite folders, so I know how it feels. It really really sucks.

Yea , I was just pining over this the other day to my fiance...

When I was a kid my dad had this really super-duper cool knife. It was the coolest , neatest knife in the world. ( thinking like I did when I was a kid , bear with me .. :D )
To me , as a kid it was the kind of knife every man who was a real man would have. He used it fishing and camping mostly , it was a folder made by Camillus that he got as a present from his dad when my dad joined the Coast Guard. It had a fat and broad rope blade and a marlin spike , black scales and a bail , I can still picture it to this day.

Well about 14 years ago my dad was cleaning out the garage a bit and I was over visiting , he asked me if I wanted "THE knife".... I think he just thought of it as giving me a run of the mill knife , to me it was far better than a box of Sebenzas , one for every day of the month. I was like " are you sure dad ? " I felt a bit odd finally getting a knife I had admired for over three decades. I was thankfully able to enjoy it for a year or so.

Well , to my foolishness I left it in a spot on my old entertainment center which I thought was reasonably safe , I had a bunch of 'friends' over and the following morning my knife was gone. I put the word out that I just wanted the knife back , no questions asked , to no avail.
I've tried buying patterns that were similiar but have not found one yet even close to it , not like it would really replace it anyway.

I really wish I had that knife back , I would rather have that one knife than all the William Henry's or Sebenzas , etc in the world.

Lesson learned , dont leave your important things laying around... :)

I had a spyderco police g-10 that was in my pocket durring a concert. at some point at the show the knife found its way out of my pocket without me noticing, and i didnt notice until i was leaving. as soon as i noticed, i turned back around and went inside to the room and searched the whole floor, but someone had snatched it. it was a pretty small room, and no chairs, so i new once i had scoured the room that i wouldnt be getting it back. i just hope that whoever took it knows at least a little what it is and wont just abuse the crap out of it like a $3 gas station knife

Was it anything like this? (missing the marlin spike and the rear bolster)

Only ones I lost were the ones from childhood. I had quite a little collection of knives - both gifted and ones I bought along the way.

I have no idea whatever happened to any of them.

I feel for you. About a year ago I thought I lost mine. (my Sere 2000) My wife and I went to a biker rally in Galveston. On the way we stopped to pick up a friend. I noticed my knife was gone about half way home. I felt sick. Of course I thought it had to be SOMEWHERE... so I wasn't that much worried. I went back to my friend's house and looked... no dice. I even went back to Galveston and searched the parking lot where we were... again, no dice.

I found it about 6 months later under the front passenger seat. I was looking for something else. If I would have been looking for the knife I'm sure it would have been teleported to some alternate dimension! LOL!

Anyway, my Sere 2000 was MIA for a while, and it made me depressed!

Haven't lost a knife I care about yet but I'm probably going to lose a beater today. Plan to take my daughter to d.c. To hit the zoo and maybe a couple museums and I can't see myself not carrying a knife all day.

Well not counting the many cheapo knives I lost as a kid, there were a few special ones. The worst was a sheffield and sons bushcrafter given to me by my cousin. Really amazing knife, I didn't know what I had at the time and lost it while doing the stupid, things kids do. Regretted it ever since. More so now that I camp so often these days.

Lost my plain-jane Manix 2 in the middle of a field one day at work. I only noticed it was gone after dusk, and since it happened to be a training facility there wasn't any chance of going back for it the next day.

That knife saw a whole lot of use in the time I had it, and it's a shame that it's just rusting in a field in the middle of nowhere now. I hope somebody finds it and puts it to good use, at least. I still haven't bought a replacement, come to think of it...

Lost a couple small folders over the years. Once while stopped at a rest area to tighten up some rope holding junk on the roof. Must have left it laying on the roof and took off. The other I really liked and best I can figure it slid out of my pocket at a Lamaze class. I figured I traded it for pretty darn good kid!

The Rift is my favorite knife so I feel your pain. I have a M4 LE number 6 of 50 in my pocket. The only knife I have lost, I didn't lose. My carbon fiber and S90V Para 2 Sprint run went over the side of my boat this summer. I noticed I accidentally brought it and put it in the cooler so it would be safe. My wife made a sandwhich and decided to use it instead of the butter knife. Somehow it slid off her lap and instead of going on the floor it defied gravity and went up and over the side.

It is a crappy feeling but it goes away. At least the Rift is in production and you can buy a similar one. The Para is so expensive I will never afford a new one on the secondary market. It stinks cause it was a great knife to use and most of them are probably sitting in a safe and won't be used. The way things are going right now it will probably be a long time before I'm able to buy any knife.

I have mentioned this before in a different thread, but just for the sake of saying so, I have lost two of my ATF knives.

First...was a Benchmade AFCK that was one of the older liner locks. I bought that knife at a gun show back around '95 or '96. I carried that knife with me everywhere I went for years, then I made the mistake of loaning it to a co-worker without realizing what he was going to use it for. He decided to use it for a pry bar and popped the tip off. I was so pissed off I wanted to kick his ass all over that job site, but ultimately, it was my fault for being complacent and handing over my knife. Later that same day, I must've got busy and laid it down and then got side tracked and walked away from it. I never saw it again after that.

Second...was a full serrated Spyderco Renegade. I saw that knife in the glass case at the gun shop I used to frequent and thought it was the most awesome knife I had ever seen; I bought it back in the middle to late '90's as well. After that knife drew blood bad enough for me to get stitched up...we were inseparable. Anyway...I walked into a GC one night and after a hard night of partying...I left and discovered my knife was gone. I went back to the club in the hopes that it had been found and turned in, but I kind of knew that was a futile attempt.

For the longest time after those losses, I just carried a folding box cutter.

I'm back to carrying my better knives again, but I'm a lot more careful now.

lost my victorinox swiss army knife and a 10$ gas station knife i liked at a summer camp when i was a early teenager. mum replaced the SAK with an offbrand one, not nearly as good but its served me for the past 10 years, finally got an Alox pioneer to replace.

not a great knife, 440a and gritty action hard to sharpen recurve, but the ruko 0029 i lost at 17 in guatemala sucked for me, i had been carrying it for years. i still love the design of the knife(and the very solid framelock) and wish there was a version made with proper materials and quality.

for 30 bucks i went and got another just to have that knife again, even though many knives i own at half the price(can you say enlan?) are much superior.

Sorry , I did not check this thread sooner. It was like that except the scales were black and not plastic-like at all. Oilburner , sort of like that too but as stated the scales were something other than a plastic like material and they were black.

Had a near miss a few years back with a Smith & Wesson SWAT. Not a particularly expensive knife, but it had sentimental value (it was a gift). Anyway, the pocket clip snagged on some scuba gear when I was returning it to the dive shop. Fortunately, the manager at the shop picked it up and stuck it behind the counter. I went back the next day (was attempting to back-track my steps), and when I inquired, the manager pulled the knife out from behind the counter and returned it to me.

Had my first Lg Sebenza 21 stolen less than 1 month of owning it. Worked out in the end I guess.. Ended up replacing it with a LG regular Sebenza.
