Hi gents.

Thankfully I still have my well-loved CT, but I have lost my beloved satin-finished (my work) Howling Rat. The patina on that one.... *Sigh*...

Anyway, anyone know of the best way about getting another Resiprene-C handled HR???

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link! That said, I just saw the pic of the new HR...I am hard pressed to not just wait now...

ARrrg.

One way or the other, I will strip the coating and work up a patina again. Now I am thinking that a slab-sided knife will look better this way even though I like the cold-insulation that the Res-C provides... If your knife is still available & I decide to just get the Res-C, I'll let you know asap. Thanks again.

Outstanding. I got the HR from jlo86cj and decided to try paint stripper to remove the coating this time around... Wow...I can't believe how well this worked.

All that was done was to leave in the stripper for 45 min. I went to check on it fully intending to have to leave it all day and then scrape/sand off the coating afterwards… Not a chance. After only 45 minutes, I lifted the knife out of the stripper and it was completely bare. All I had to do was wipe off the blade, deactivate it with GM-Tec, and then applied Brownells Formula 44/40 cold blue. After rubbing in the blue for a minute or so, I rubbed it down with Flitz.

I am very pleased with the result.

When I stripped my DABA, I used a spray on stripper that worked in about 2 minutes, bubbled up in front of my eyes, and wiped off with a paper towel.

That howler looks nice nekkid.

the new scrap yard will replace the old form of the HR. it will be s7 instead of 52100, but it will be the same form and handle

That howler looks great stripped. The cold blue looks more like a nice patina than what I would expect for a bluing. Is that a result of rubbing down with Flitz?

Yep. It was completely flat black from the blue alone. I used the flitz to bright out a few high spots and "age" it a bit. I'm keeping my eye on a BR sized blade from Scrap Yard....that S7 steel derivative sounds perfect for that.
